SAGE HERVOK

The rose-pink light of dawn illuminated the swale, gentle water flowing over the lichen-covered stones. Without the amphibian's usual chirping, it was a quiet place. The weather was still far too cold for the normal inhabitants. The black nostrils of the buck flared, and his white tail lifted as he cautiously led the herd. alert to his surroundings as he scanned them, making his way to the water's edge. As his lips met with the crisp water his tail fell. Three does emerged from the surrounding trees to join him. The smallest of such creeping towards the outermost of the herd. A product of last year's spring, young and inexperienced.

Emerald eyes filtered over to her. This was the moment that all of Sage's hard work had been leading up to. She'd mapped out this herd's routine, and like clockwork, they would return here in the wee hours of the morning. They would remain for a few before moving on to graze. Then, when the sun rose above the trees, they would make their way elsewhere to bed down until dawn. She suppressed the whine in the back of her throat. Her adrenaline was already pumping, excitement coursing through her at the opportunity to prove herself. The woman had filled @Viorel and @Annie in on the way over. Told them about how many there were, where they would be before sunrise, and how the hunting party would have to leave early in the morning. She was grateful that they had agreed to come along with her.

Her lips parted as she whispered to the others, peaking at them in turn from the corner of her eyes, "Viorel you'll stay here as an ambush, Annie you'll flank opposite of me. We'll charge from either side of the littlest doe to cut her off from the others. Then drive her his way." She didn't wait for confirmation, creeping around the trees. She held herself in a low crouch and prowled the area nice and slow. Her creamy pelt almost melted into the snowy landscape. She rounded about the herd, coming to the side of the intended target, and waited for Annie.

Dead Empress Backwater I. Leader
Viorel Valle

Viorel had been happy that Sage had decided on a role that she wanted to focus on; he had felt bad about blowing her off when she had asked. Instead of apologizing though he had been amongst the first to volunteer to participate in her first led hunt. Actions were better than words in his opinion. She gave the plan and yellow eyes scanned the herd while she spoke, taking note of what she would have them do.

The leader turned his attention back to the young woman, ready to warn her that the doe she has selected may be the smallest but also seemed to be calling special focus from the buck. It may not be the smartest choice to tackle the object of the buck’s affection, even if she did appear to be the littlest option. But, Sage had already begun moving away, presumably to go find where she would launch the chase from. Besides, this was a hunt that she was leading to prove to Eros that she had what it took to be a huntress for the pack. He couldn’t be stepping in at every turn or she would never learn.

The man crouched down, eyes flashing along the tree line and watching the prey carefully, ready to behind. His jaws filled with saliva at the thought of a fresh hunt, a small smile pulling at his lips.

Annie felt about as experienced as their target. She had been eager to join a pack hunting party - knowing she needed more practice hunting the kind of larger prey that was the norm for her landlubber family – but now that she was here, she could feel her nerves twitching. She studied the deer carefully while listening closely to Sage’s instructions, much as she had earlier when the plan was first explained, though, now that she was actually looking at the deer; They’re awfully big, up close…

The yearling swallowed hard, nodding her head at the huntress, eyes never leaving the deer. As Sage stalked off to port, Annie headed starboard, keeping her body low and circling wide around the herd to avoid detection. Much like the other female, her pale fur gave her an advantage against eyes, but not noses, and she worried that the maneuver might alert the prey to their scent. But again, she was not as versed in land hunting, and had to trust that the huntress plan was sound.

So, she hurried around the edge of the glade, focusing on their prize. Once in position, she hungered down, waiting for Sage’s signal. Annie knew, once it came, she had to be quick, getting herself in between the doe and the herd, or this would all be bungled; You got this Anne! She told herself, imagining her fearless father and prepared to pounce.

Thoughts ”Speech”

Annie is travelling with Ozark, who may jump into any of her threads.
