Early early morning - pre dawn, Overcast, 46F/8C
The Kane woman had been unable to sleep, something about the changing of the seasons made her feel restless. Even now before the sun had come up, with the moon hidden behind a thick layer of clouds it was warm. Not sweltering hot like it would be in just a few short moons, but warm enough that the frogs were croaking and the night was filled with familiar sounds of the summer. It felt like spring had just begun and now she was already thinking ahead to the next season. It felt better than dwelling on the past like she had done all winter.
Plus, this year she didn’t have the added responsibility of caring for a fresh cub of her own, and she was no longer leading, which meant she had more freedom than she had had in years. So instead of tossing and turning and trying to sleep, she had gone to stretch her legs, and then she had kept stretching and stretching until she had gone farther than she had since Jethro had come home.
Following the sound of water she had discovered the strangest formation, as if the creek was leading her up a stoneway to nothing. It was nice though, it felt secluded, like she had stumbled upon something exclusive. That is until she practically stepped on a snake and jumped backwards in shock, a gasp escaping her maw before she could compose herself.
