Welcome to Ruins of Wildwood! We are a realistic wolf play-by-post roleplaying game with an active, friendly and welcoming community of wolf enthusiasts and creative writers. We are an intermediate-advanced level RP, with a minimum word count of 100 words.

Visitors may post in our Plot Board prior to joining.
Our final birthday gift to you, lovely RoWers, is the introduction of our new ribbon award system. You can read all about it in our new library article, but basically these ribbons are a way to show off to the rest of the site what you've accomplished here on RoW. This is meant to be a simple award system - you qualify for one of the ribbons (view list here) and you get a spiffy ribbon in your profile to show off. Want to see an example? Check out Shadow's profile to see what it will look like.
Normally, we will ask that you claim your ribbons in the Maintenance thread. But because of the expected mad rush to claim ribbons since they're all shiny and new, we're going to ask that until August 15th, all ribbon claims be posted in this announcement thread. When requesting, we ask that you please post the request on the account the award is applicable to - other requests will be ignored. Most of the ribbons are fairly self explanatory, but please provide appropriate links where applicable.
A big thanks to Sarah who colored the ribbons for us! Also, the ribbons listed are not a complete list - we're going to be releasing them in phases to make adding them easier on our part.

Random Event — A White Stag Has Appeared!
A White Stag has been spotted in Relic Lore, moving quickly. The deer is travelling alone and seems to show up in all kinds of places, some of them long distances apart. But, there is even something more unique about this particular deer - an odd object seems to be attached to its head. Wonder what it could be?
This is an All Welcome thread in the spirit of RoW's birthday fun. You may react to this however you think your character would. This is a Relic Lore wide RE - it does not matter where you make threads in reference to this RE.
The Birthday Week keeps right on going! Today, we have for you a throwback puzzle that you can solve in your browser. Bonus points if you can tell me what the significance of that image is!
Second, we have a Cake Walk/Hunt! There are 10 Cake Icons () hidden around the board that need to be found! Hovering over each of the icons will reveal a letter that is part of a 10 letter phrase that needs to be unscrambled. The first three people to PM the @Spirit of Wildwood account with the locations of all the cakes AND the correct phrase will receive a prize at the end of the week.
Here's a hint for the cake walk participants: there are no cakes hidden in any in character or out of character threads.
Also, for those of you wanting to solve the Cryptogram from yesterday, a new hint has been added!
For those of you who enjoy puzzle-solving, this is a birthday activity for you. Choice quotes were selected from various In Character threads and put into the following Cryptogram. For those of you who don't know what a cryptogram is, you can learn more about it here and learn how to solve them here. There are four quotes in total, but all four use the same key. A new hint will be added each day until Friday. Submit your answer to the @Spirit of Wildwood account via PM. The first 3 people to solve and submit the puzzle will receive a small prize at the end of the week.
Three years ago today, Ruins of Wildwood officially opened its doors to the roleplaying community. We've had lots of ups and downs since then, but today we happily celebrate three years of continuous roleplay in Relic Lore! This last year has been one of the biggest yet, with the transition from IPB to myBB forums and a massive increase in members and a resulting expansion of our community. It has been a pleasure to meet and RP with all of our new members who have joined over the last year, and we hope the good times continue into the next year.
To celebrate, we've put together a small group of updates, games, and contests that will be released over the upcoming week - just to help put you into the partying spirit. We'd like to thank Sarah for creating the Birthday Skin that will be the default skin for the next couple of weeks. It's pretty gorgeous, so you all should check it out. The skin can also be seen on the RoW 2012-2013 Yearbook. All content was user created, so go check out your fellow RoWers and the faces of the last year. Congratulations to all superlative winners!
We'd also like to direct everybody over to Grey's Party Avatars! Grey, out of the goodness of her heart (and apparently lots of time!) has made party avatars for all the wolves in Relic Lore. Help us celebrate by switching out your avatar for this party version this week.
And finally, to kick off the Birthday Celebrations, we'd like to announce a posting contest. This contest will run from today until Friday. To participate, please respond to the post below this one with the names of each character you'd like to participate. The top three winners will receive a prize at the end of the week.

Library Updates, OTMs, & More
July is only half way done and it's already been an incredibly month for us here at RoW. We've had several new members join and at some point we surpassed 24,000 posts. Not sure when that happened, but it's pretty awesome! So give yourselves a pat on the back for all your hard work.
For those of you who haven't spent much time in the Library recently, now is a great time to refresh yourself. Our local Librarian, Grey (@Mapplethorpe, spent several hours writing some new articles and updating some old ones with awesome information to help enhance your role playing experience. Finally, a few additional updates and notices:
You might have noticed that a word counter has appeared whenever you start posting. At the request of a few of our members, I spent the day trying to figure out how get a simple word counter to account for all the HTML and CSS that everybody uses in their posts. I believe, fingers crossed, that the count should be accurate - it will ignore all html tags and will ignore all CSS style tags. It doesn't differentiate between OOC and IC sections of a post, so be mindful of that! But hopefully this will help everyone keep to the minimum word limit of 250 words per post. As a bonus, it also works on mobile devices.
The yearbook has been assembled and is undergoing some minor revisions. It will be released, along with a few other surprises, the week of July 29th, RoW's 3rd Birthday.
And last, I'd like to remind everybody that beginning on Friday until July 29th, I will be unavailable as I will be leaving the country on a family vacation. On the off chance that I do have internet access and you absolutely need me (as opposed to Rachel or one of the moderators) I'd appreciate it if you could email me at ruinsofwildwood@gmail.com rather than PMing me. Yearbook and Of the Months!
It's hard to believe that June is almost done! With it, the staff has a few reminders we'd like to share with everyone.
First, please take a few minutes to nominate one of your fellow RoWers' for the June Of the Months! You can do that by going to this form and submitting your responses".
Next, we have a couple of updates regarding the RoW Yearbook. In order to get it pulled together in time, we ask that all users who would like to contribute please do so by following the instructions below.
Character Profiles — If you haven't, please be sure to submit your character information by July 1st.
Pack Leaders — All pack blurbs should be posted in the Leadership forum on or before July 1st. Remember, we encourage you to get your pack members involved in the writing of this blurb, so don't be afraid to ask for some help! This might be a good time to check to make sure that your pack articles in the Library are up to date as well.
Yearbook Superlatives — Thank you to everybody who contributed to the yearbook superlatives! Those chosen have been compiled together on this form for you to vote. Please get your votes in by July 1st.
If you have any questions or any suggestions for the yearbook, please don't hesitate to post here and let us know!

Lone Wolf LP Dock Change
This is a notice to all members that the Lone Wolf LP dock will be increased. We feel that perhaps lone wolf characters need more incentive to join one of the packs, as the number for lone wolves is so high. Lone wolves will now lose -20 pack points every week rather than just every two weeks. This change will come in to effect starting July 1st so be prepared for the life of a lone wolf to become much more harsh. :)
Life Points Claiming
We put up a notice regarding this before, but I'm putting out a reminder again after looking over the Maintenance thread. Members are to only claim LP after a threa is archived and meets the LP thread requirements. I've noticed a lot of people haven't waited, and it means our staff have to sort through the numerous requests placed in and double check.
From now on, if you put in a request for LP and the thread is not archived, staff will simply delete the request. Leaving it as a notice to the member leaves clutter in the board, and also means they end up having to keep tabs on the thread and go back and check for when they can award the points. This is not their responsibility. The LP maintenance takes time to keep updated, and I'm sure we'd all rather see our staff play ICly with us rather than sorting through multiple threads that don't apply yet. <3
Pack Thread LP
Characters can now claim +15 points for participating in their Pack Threads if they make 5 posts in one interaction. The LP guide has been updated accordingly — please let me know if the wording is confusing and I can try to clarify better.

Packs, Skins, & Voting Galore!
The past week has been an incredibly busy one here on RoW. We'd like to take a few minutes to let everybody know what some of those changes have been.
New Packs
We would like to say goodbye to Swift River and Grizzly Hollow, the two oldest packs in Relic Lore. This week, they were officially replaced by Oak Tree Bend and Darkwater Rapids respectively. We wish the best of luck to the new packs as they strike out on their own and create a new life for themselves in new and unfamiliar places.
Skins
We've added the remaining skins that were submitted to us by the community. You can go check those out in your user control panel. We'd like to give a special thanks to becuffin who took the time to add fades to all of the skins and put together a lot of the skins' colors. We would also like to thank Sarah for helping in getting those setup. A friendly reminder that if you are submitting a skin to be used, please include a fade along the bottom - it makes the work of adding skins go significantly faster for the staff.
Speaking of skins, we have a poll up about screen resolutions! Go vote there if you haven't and let us know what size of screen you like to use.
Voting Galore
We want your opinion on everything! I'm still working on the site survey, but until then, we have a few other items that we'd like you to vote on.
May Wolf of the Month — We have a tie for our May Wolf of the Month. Go vote for who you think deserves the title. Voting closes June 8th.
