Yearbook 2017 Voting
It's that time of year again! On July 29th, Ruins of Wildwood turns 7 years old!! We're so proud and so humbled to be a part of such a wonderful community of writers. To help commemorate the event, we will be releasing the annual yearbook and a few other contests/games for you all to participate in.
We're a little late getting the yearbook out this year, but to make up for it, we're giving you extra time to submit your entries! We ask that all yearbook entries, including character info, player info, superlative info, and pack info, be submitted by July 16th. In addition to the links below, pack leaders are asked to write a short summary about their pack and how its year has gone. We encourage you to post in your pack's common rooms and work together with your pack mates to put something together. When you've written your summary, you can submit it by PMing the Spirit of Wildwood account.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let us know!
Player Information
Character Information
Superlative Voting
I also wanted to mention that I will be away on vacation out of the country starting tomorrow and will be gone for about a week. If you need admin/staff support, please PM the Spirit of Wildwood account so another staff member can assist you in my absence.

[dohtml] Congratulations Alice and Askan!Of the Month Winners for May!Happy Summer! Have the OTMs -- and a huge shout out to Kydnt for providing beautiful art.
 |
Alice makes it back to the MOTM board! She first appeared in October 2016, but she's been rocking the post counts long before that! She's recently expanded out from her main (Askan, who we have plenty to say about below), to take on a few adults, and puppies too! Savion really showed just how much range Alice can include in her writing. Between in depth plot and a beautiful craft, she's definitely one to keep an eye on. Well deserved, and we can't wait to see more, Alice!
|
 |
Askan has also made it back to the WOTM board, last seen in September 2016. With over 600 posts in less than a year, he's certainly made his mark on many wolves across Relic Lore. Since September, he's been Drestig's steadfast second, handling situations with the wolves of Whitestone Monadnock and the winter that wouldn't end. He's even found himself a mate! Most recently, Askan had everyone biting their nails as he was jumped by his uncle, Savion -- it was a close call, but our man made it in the end. He's on the road to recovery now, though inevitably changed with the news of his family's death. We're looking forward to another year of adventures!
|
And congratulations to Hearthwood River for winning Pack of the Month! They made 57 posts between their pack thread and other pack activities in the month of April. This proper heckton more than doubled their nearest competitor. Great work and keep up the amazing activity!
We have a few general etiquette reminders, now that we have so many new joiners with the coming summer!Chat Behavior
The chat is meant to be a friendly social place, and for the most part, we're glad to say we see that! However, we've noticed things occasionally get tense, and would like to remind people to please keep respect in mind while in the chat. With such a big community, you'll likely run into at least one person who opposes your opinion no matter the topic; a polite discussion is acceptable, but if you find yourself going into back-and-forth territory, the public domain is not the place for it. Additionally, remember that characters are someone's brain child! So even if you are making a comment 'in your character's perspective' in such a public forum, please remember everyone can see that, including the writer, and feelings might be a bit hurt. Even if they aren't in the chat, they'll get the tags, and viewing the aftermath can be even more difficult to understand actual intentions. Remember, this is supposed to be a fun place for people to relax and enjoy themselves! We don't want anyone stressing about the chat.
Roleplay Etiquette
If you want to write with someone, it's generally suggested that you contact the person first! Even in the case of a rank challenge or pack disciplinary action, which may not be fun for a secondary party, should at least be alerted. If it's not written out, it can be handled appropriately. Additionally, as time changes, so does style, and with the change in LP rules has come a change in how wolves join threads. Particularly, we would like to address join threads: after polling leaders, most seem not to mind pack mates joining, however, a five-wolf thread tends to go slowly, and may be overwhelming for a new member who's just joining. We'd like RoW to remain open and encouraging to old and new members alike, and so for now, we'd like to suggest that if you want to join a 'JOIN' thread, that is not labeled in the OOC text as all welcome, you contact the person trying to join and see if they mind. We currently have a few plans in the works to remediate this problem altogether, but in the meantime, we'd like to ask that you respect the joiner's wishes.
Skill LP Requests
So as we updated skill LP rules, we previously noted that all demonstrations should be noted in an OOC section. We'd like to reiterate that this is not optional. We have many members and a lot of LP requests! The mods will not entertain any skill LP requests that do NOT include all three OOC notes. Additionally, we do actually read those posts! So please make sure your wolf is demonstrating your specified role, and those posts are marked, and you should get your LP lickity-split!
Thanks loves, and welcome to summer![/dohtml]

[dohtml] Congratulations Marina and Rosalind!Of the Month Winners for April!I am so sorry for the delay in posting this. I promise that the May OTMs will be more timely. Again, big thank you to Kydnt for the avatars!
 |
Marina won MoTM last July when she first joined the site and made us all laugh, quickly becoming an integral member of the site. Well, she's still here and she's still funny! Even when she's going through a tough time, she tries very hard to see the bright side of things, and to help other people see it too.
She's definitely one of the best spree-ers in the land, and has some great plots to boot. Always so much fun to read her stuff. Congrats, Marina!
|
 |
Rosalind was a brand new wolf to Relic Lore in early April, and Maeby's recent return to RoW. There's a lot of intrigue surrounding her appearance, as she is the accidental daughter of Darrah Tainn--which of course means she's got quite a bit of family running around on the site. Her bright, eager,
and self-deprecating humor is a treat to read as she attempts to unravel the legacy of her father and her family in Relic Lore. Most recently, she discovered her uncle Drestig but it remains to see if she'll find her grandfather or other relatives. We look forward to seeing what comes next!

And congratulations to Charred Ash Draw for winning Pack of the Month! They made 24 posts between their pack thread and other pack activities in the month of April. Please keep in mind that you should only be using the pack tag for:- Meetings
- Hunts
- Pack Howl
- Pack Random Event
- Disputes with other packs (Major ones, i.e. scuffles, fights, confrontations)
- Pack-wide Training and Lessons
- Tournaments
- Pup-meeting
- New member welcoming
If you would like us to consider other options please let us know.
Puppies Galore! Most of the puppies are finally born, which means we're finally reaching the end of "Puppy Season." Already the first of this years staggering number of puppies have reached 3 weeks of age which means their accounts can be activated and their players can post with them! Please keep in mind that if a puppy is not activated within 2 weeks / turns 5 weeks without being activated the puppy will be considered dead. Parents have the right to re-adopt their puppies out if they are concerned that the pup will not be activated in time, or if they become inactive any time before the age of 8 months old.
If you've adopted a puppy and don't know what is realistic behavior for a puppy or what age they are able to do certain things, we strongly recommend that you read through our Puppy Development Guide. Puppies are fun, cute, and adorable, but they have their own restrictions when it comes to RP, so please keep this in mind before applying.
Feel free to consult the "May" portion of the infographic!

Brand New Support Channel!
We'd like everyone to join our new channel #Questions on slack! This will collect everyone's questions into one place so that staff can easily see and answer them, without disrupting the flow of conversation in #General and removing the pressure to answer things immediately (which can often result in unclear or incorrect answers) so that nothing gets lost. In the #Questions channel you can casually ask basic questions like "how many posts do I need for lp?" or "what is the library article i can find x thing in?" when you need help. This is not the place, though, to contact staff about private matters (like disagreements with or concerns about other members) or request maintenance tasks like reviving threads, adding/removing a character from a pack, or ribbons. We hope that this will give members the support the need without the usual chaos of the #General chat.

[dohtml] Congratulations Jacqueline and Lilya!Of the Month Winners for March!Again, big thank you to Kydnt for the avatars!
 |
Jacqueline is an amazing writer and an incredibly active member, despite having only one character (we all wonder how she does it!). She sets a great example of what sort of interesting, crazy plots can arise through minimal ooc planning, which is part of what makes Lorcan's development so engrossing. No one knows what will happen! Jacqueline has also been very kind when it comes to gifting art to other members or offering to make avatars for puppies, and very skilled to boot! Congrats, Jacqueline!

|
 |
Lilya has come such a long way since she entered Relic Lore (literally a year ago yesterday, wow!) as a scared, yearling female too afraid to settle down in a pack for fear of being found by those that targeted her family. Since then she's served a stint as the leader of Hearthwood River in Kisla's stead, and found a fast and deep bond with her former co-leader Lachesis. She was recently attacked by Mittani of WHITESTONE MONADNOCK, which has incited some very interesting drama as now her pack is forced to reconsider its alliances with the Rock of the North. Lilya is always an interesting read and we can't wait to see how pregnancy and eventually puppies affect her development. Congrats, Lilya!

Pack Membership RequirementsThe longstanding, unwritten policy regarding pack membership allowed wolves to leave the pack for any amount of time without being "kicked out" of their pack. Pack membership was sort of up to a Leader's in character interpretation of whether or not a wolf would be coming home, however this policy has caused many logical confusions over the years and we felt that it was time to address this so as to minimize instances where people avoid LP docks for being a lone wolf. Logically, if a wolf is away from their home for a long time they would cease to smell like their pack and would not benefit from the support of many wolves to hunt or protect them.
Therefore, To retain pack membership, a wolf is expected to regularly be within the boundaries of their home. Wolves need each other's support to survive and thrive. Wolves that go out on long journeys will not have the protection or aid of their fellow pack members, and will eventually lose the scent of their pack. If a wolf leaves the territory for longer than two months without returning they will be removed from their pack rosters, and if they rejoin they will not regain their previously held rank. A leader may agree or give their blessings for trips two months or longer, but the wolf will still be removed from the roster and must "rejoin" when they return.
Puppies Galore! Finally, we have posted our 2017 Cub Adoption listing up in Wolf Central. You can check it out here! Instructions for adopting a puppy can be found in the first post of the thread. Expectant parents, please see the first post of the thread for your character's due date. It isn't required that you begin your thread on the date posted, but it cannot be started before that date. Puppies will be playable beginning three weeks after their birth date.
If you're wanting to adopt a puppy, we strongly recommend that you read through our Puppy Development Guide. Puppies are fun, cute, and adorable, but they have their own restrictions when it comes to RP, so please keep this in mind before applying.

Policy Updates: Fights & Activity
Over the past few weeks, the staff has been discussing making some updated changes to our guidelines concerning fights and activity expectations. We've been made aware of some inconsistencies in our rules and how we've been enforcing them, and for that I am sorry. This can lead to frustrations for everybody involved, staff and member alike, so we're hoping that by making these adjustments, we can clear things up and have a more consistent process in place.
Fights
In our fighting system guide we emphasized that consent from fight participants was key. We've found that many people agree to participate in a fight via PM or Slack and it can sometimes lead to confusion because the staff doing the rolls isn't aware of the agreement. Going forward, we ask that all participants simply respond to the fight request thread to let us know they want to participate so everybody involved is on the same page.
Along those same lines, we recognize that it can be frustrating to hold your character in limbo waiting for a fight's outcome, especially when it comes to rank challenges. We've decided that going forward, fight participants will have 7 days to respond to the fight request confirming they want to participate. After that confirmation, the normal 3 days between rolls will take effect. The purpose of this clarification is so that everybody has a fair chance to check the site to see if they've been challenged without forcing the challenger to wait a whole activity check period before a resolution can be reached.
Leadership Activity
As many of you are aware, leaders have a different activity requirement than regular members because leadership activity has been shown to be so critical to general pack activity. Leaders are expected to post 3 times per activity check. If a leader doesn't meet those requirements two activity checks in a row, they are demoted to II and must wait before challenging back up to their leadership position.
However, less of you are aware that our rules also specify that if a leader makes 0 posts in an activity check, they will be removed from leadership and bumped to II. We've had this rule on the books for a while, but staff enforcement of it hasn't been great and that's led to some confusion. Going forward, we want to make it clear that if a leader doesn't make a post during an activity check, they will be bumped to II as the rule states. Even if a leader rejoins during the 5 day grace period, they will be moved to II if they didn't make posts during the AC. When this happens, staff will PM the relevant players to let everybody know.
In addition to the above, we'll also start PMing leaders if they miss the required 3 checks. We've had a lot of cases over the years of leaders missing the activity requirements during a check, making them during the next, missing them during the next, and so on. To help keep everybody honest and aware of what the guidelines are, we'll be sending PMs after an AC if leaders have missed the check. If leaders are consistently falling short of the requirements, we'll evaluate on a case-by-case basis about how to proceed so the needs of the pack are being met.
As always, if anybody has any questions, please feel free to ask or send a PM to the Spirit of Wildwood account.

We Made It!
After 6 and half years of writing, we've finally hit a huge milestone, which just blows my mind. I remember back in April 2012 when we were excited to hit 10,000 posts. That was only five years ago, and our activity has grown exponentially since then. So many wonderful people have contributed to making this happen, and we want to take the time to celebrate you all. We hope you enjoy the skin (cobbled together at light speed by me) and this little signature flair to commemorate reaching 100,000 posts as a group:
There will likely be a ribbon dropping soon, but I'm currently away from the computer that has the files. We'll see about getting that to you all. Thank you everyone, so much, for all the work you do to keep this place a lively community!
And, of course, congratulations to Tagg for being the member/wolf to get the 100,000th post. Vespertio has offered to make the winner a table, which just goes to show how thoughtful and lovely everyone on this site is. I am such a proud mom right now, haha!
ROW ❤'S YOU!

PSA: Mature ContentBreeding season has begun and it appears many of you have gotten off to a productive start. Before the month progresses any further, we would just like to issue a small reminder about what we consider "mature content" so that everyone has an understanding of what is and isn't allowed on RoW.
RoW, because it allows anyone above the age of 13 to join, is a PG13 site. In the Breeding Season Infographic we have a bullet that reads "Sexual assault or pornographic description of breeding is 100% not allowed," and we would like to clarify that point. Pornographic means describing in detail sexual acts or body parts, referring to or describing genitals, or describing sexual thoughts/desires. Innuendo and flirting is one thing, but posts should not be explicitly sexual in nature. If you feel your post is approaching that line you should finish the thread where it is without any further allusions. Please be mindful of adding the {m} tag for threads that become mature in any way, or the staff will be adding them for you.
We want everyone on RoW to feel comfortable, so if you do come across a post that you think crosses a line please press the "report" button above the post and we will attend to your inquiry.

If you would like us to consider other options please let us know.
Changes to Subterritory SubmissionWe have decided, now with recent updates to the map and increasing interest in creating subterritories to change the way we go about approving subterritories. As has been pointed out to us, denying territories after the thread has been finished can cause continuity issues, and the staff cannot always monitor threads for unrealistic territory ideas. Thus, going forward we will be pre-approving subterritory ideas.
If you have an idea for a subterritory, you can simply post your picture, location, and description in the Territory Creation thread. It is recommended you do not start your discovery thread in case someone replies and you are asked to make changes to your territory. The staff will either okay your territory idea, ask for revisions, or deny it if is is too unrealistic. When the thread has been completed, you can post again with the link to the completed thread to let us know and we will add the subterritory to the map and to the appropriate forum. The subterritory will not be added until the thread is complete. Please only submit territories you have an immediate interest in discovering--we do not want to babysit a backlog of unused territory ideas.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here![/dohtml]
