  New Admin & POTM Changes
Posted by: Serach - Sep 11, 2016, 06:17 PM - Forum: News Desk - Replies (5)

New Admin & POTM Rules

What's that? A new Admin?! After several years of manning this ship, supported by the help of several different members of the community, Rachel and I have decided to extend the administrative presence on the site. With that, we would like to extend a warm welcome and congratulations to SARAH!! Sarah has been a staff member on RoW at various points for years, and has been a member of this site for almost as long as it has been open. We are really excited about this change and we're looking forward to having her helping hands on board in this capacity.

POTM Changes

We would also like to announce some changes to the POTM and how it's calculated. Up until now, it was calculated by the amount of pack LP earned by a pack's members over the course of the month. After discussion amongst the staff, we've decided to alter this. Instead, the POTM will now be calculated by the number of posts in threads marked by the pack icon. This means that all posts in the official pack thread (pinned in each pack's territory) as well as any other threads marked with the pack icon, such as hunts, meetings, events, etc.

Please keep in mind that posts must meet the normal 200 word minimum to count towards the POTM total. This new change will build upon the previous POTM system, so packs that have already earned a POTM title will not have to start over at 0 titles.

Have questions, comments, concerns? We're happy to address them, so let us know!

Congratulations Marina and Kino!

Of the Month Winners for July!

First off, super sorry this is late. Vacation at the beginning of the month kinda made this hard.

Marina only joined halfway through the month of July, but she has made such an impression on our community. I can't think of a better way to put it than the way Siki did: "{she} has thrown herself into the community more wholeheartedly than almost anyone I've ever known on any site!" Marina is always available to chat and has a great sense of humor that livens up the chat even in the oddest of hours. She has also contributed a fair bit of her time doing manipulation requests for other members, which is always appreciated. On top of that, she's got one awesome character that is a ton of fun to thread with/read. We hope you're here to stay for a long time! Congrats!

I may be a little biased in saying this, but Kino is one of my favourite characters on the site, and this year he has seen a lot of growth and come a long way from the boy he once was. In July alone he made huge leaps in development: fighting with Larkspur, realizing his feelings for Sahalie, and admitting his true past to Sahalie. The bold kid even began an expedition to Hearthwood River in order to discuss pack relations and meet Sahalie's relatives, and we all can't wait to see how that goes. And of course, we're all wondering how things will turn out for him in the end: will he win Sahalie's heart? Will he run into Draven, stationed so close to the mountain? Only time will tell.

And congratulations to Oak Tree Bend for winning Pack of the Month! Their final pack life point value was 680, wow!  Those of you who have not claimed the ribbon before may do so, and those of you who already have the ribbon you guys are well on your way to reaching the next tier!

  Happy 6th Birthday, RoW!
Posted by: Serach - Jul 29, 2016, 06:43 PM - Forum: News Desk - Replies (6)

Happy 6th Birthday, RoW!

Another year has come and gone, and it has been an incredible one! RoW is now 6 years old! It has been a wonderful journey, and on behalf of the entire staff team, I want to thank everybody who has been a part of it. Whether you've been here for the full 6 years or you joined recently, this community has flourished because of you and your fellow RPers. July 29th is a special day for all of us, and we hope you enjoy the celebration that we've put together for you.

Birthday Skin!

You all should have noticed that there is a new default skin! Created by Sarah, we hope you enjoy this new theme! You can check it out by switching your theme in the site's footer.

Yearbook

Every July, RoW releases a member created yearbook. Featuring character profiles, player profiles, superlative voting results, a yearly overview, some neat statistics, and fun and games for your enjoyment, the yearbook is a staple part of RoW's birthday celebrations.

Last year, I challenged our members to post more than 10,000 posts. Congratulations, my dear RoWers! You have absolutely smashed that. Since July 29, 2015, we have collectively made 12,032 IC Posts!!!

We'd also like to highlight @Gent, played by Cadence, who was the most active character this year with 347 posts. Congratulations! We'd also like to congratulation @Morganna, played by Becuffin, who was the most developed character this year with 3,025 Life Points earned (and 345 posts!).

Birthday Ribbons

As usual, we have a new ribbon in our collection to celebrate RoW's 6th Birthday. If you participate in any of the activities, including the connect the dots, mad libs, and birthday cake hunt, you're automatically eligible to get the ribbon! Submit your responses to these activities by August 15 to get the ribbon.

Birthday Cake Hunt

It's back! The infamous Birthday Cake Hunt is here again. Rachel has hid nine birthday cake icons around the site. Each icon has a letter associated with it (hover over the icon to get the letter). When unscrambled, this 9 letter word reveals a message. Find the icons, unscramble the message, and send what you've discovered to the Staff Account. You must submit the locations of the icons, as well as the unscrambled word, to be awarded the ribbon. There are no cakes found in IC threads or in anyone's profiles. Happy Hunting!

Congratulations Siki and Merys!

Of the Month Winners for June!

Wow, can you believe it? This is the 12th volume of the Of the Months feature!

So June marks the 4th time in the last year that Siki has received some sort of award from the community, for writing or her wonderful presence in the chat and on the forums. This is also the 4th month in a row that Siki's been on the Top Posters for the month, and I am pretty darn sure she's hit 100 posts every time or so. You gotta stop Siki, else I'll run out of things to say! Definitely congrats on getting married early on in the month of June, and double congrats on still managing to be super active during that time. Can't wait to see what new plots you bring to the table as Mrs. Siki!

Merys entered Relic Lore near the end of February this year and has been making waves ever since. His threads are always a lot of fun to read (especially the ones involving Duckweed or one of the WFN pups) because Merys is so unapologetic about his sarcastic attitude. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one shipping Merys and Belladonna after their sunset encounter. Merys has made quite a name for himself on the western side of Relic Lore, and we are all very excited to see how Dot moves forward with his development!

And congratulations to [Whitestone Monadnock] for winning Pack of the Month! Their final pack life point value was 320, wow!  Please post in maintenance to collect your ribbon.

RoW 2015-2016 Yearbook Voting

Thank you to everybody who helped to contribute to this year's superlative categories! Just like last year, there are 3 separate forms you can submit to include your information in the yearbook. All of these forms will be editable until July 1st. Responses must be submitted and finalized by that date to be included.

Character Information

View Here

Members, you may submit as many of these forms as you need, one for each character. Please only submit entries for characters who were played on RoW at some point during July 2015 - Present.

Player Information

View Here

We want to include some information about you, our members, in our yearbook. Each player should submit just one entry.

Superlative Voting

View Here

These superlatives include thread, pack, couple, and individual categories for you to vote on. Remember, these are just for fun, so don't stress about it and go with your gut!

Attention Pack Leaders & Members

What have you and your pack been up to this year? Had some good moments? Maybe some bad ones? You might want to get started on a pack blurb to include on your page in the yearbook! Get a thread started in the common room and generate some ideas so they can get written up in paragraph form ASAP. Pack blurbs are also due July 1st if you want your pack to have one.

NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED

The puppies are here, and they've moved from the natal den.  When you see them out and about, say hello to Joan, Ophelia, and Felix!

A Pack Howl will either be posted during the month of June, so the pack can touch base with one another.  The yearlings are now among the adult ranks, and will hopefully start their training for a role.  Please continue to keep an eye on your alerts!

For now though, please check out the new RE's, stats, and happenings!

GRIZZLY HOLLOW STATISTICS

  • #4 Overall Posts (2052 total posts!!  Go team!)
  • #5 Life Points (12010 total; previously #7 at 9710 total)

  • June 27 - Last Quarter Moon

RECRUITMENT & ROLES

Spring has been good to the pack, and the ranks are straining at the seams!  Grizzly Hollow is mostly made up of "Good", "Lawful", and "Neutral" characters. Please ensure characters coming into the pack are aligned as such; characters brought to Veho and/or Oula who do not fit alignment-wise will be judged and possibly turned away. We stand for a respect for life, altruism, and a need to maintain strong personal relationships with the whole of the pack - we would like for new pack mates to share this outlook.

2 of 8 male slots and 0 of 8 female slots open in our roster.

Of our members we have:

  • Yvly - prospective Scout
  • Amaryllis - prospective Medic (Healer)

At present, we are in need of: a Guardian (Sentry or Vigilante) or a Teacher. To apply for any of the roles above or of your choice, please refer to the Grizzly Hollow Pack Role Master List.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Grizzly Hollow, you did an amazing job for the month of May - we collect 290 Life Points to put us in second place.  Keep up the great work!

OTHER NOTES

  • Want to recruit? Please howl for Veho or Oula if/when you are at the borders.
  • Absent/Scarce Members: None.

GRIZZLY HOLLOW SOUNDTRACK

A new section of the Official GH Soundtrack has begun to signify the changing of the seasons and of the hardships to come. Have a song that you think reflects our pack? Please PM Veho as Ace tries to get something ready for the passing spring.

Congratulations Puppythief and Darrah!

Of the Month Winners for May!

Just recently Puppy completed her massive update to the Subterritory Article which left us all floored with her artistic talent. Cause, let's face it: our library is huge, and Puppy deserves an award just for attempting to tackle that beast. She is responsible for updates big and small all over it, and has definitely contributed a lot to making sense of a lot of far-flung and hidden rules. On top of that she was immensely active both In Character and Out last month, and everyone's got their finger's crossed that Drestig's hopes of starting a new pack comes to fruition soon! Congrats, Puppy!

Darrah finally returned to Relic Lore in the beginning of May after going on a journey to find his sister Zera. While he didn't find her, it appears he might have stumbled upon something a bit darker that he's not quite ready to talk about. Since returning, Darrah has managed to stumble upon a long-lost relative Ruenna and is bringing her back home to meet the fam. We all look forward to seeing how the events of his mysterious hiatus impact his future decisions and actions, as well as how he steps up to the plate of brotherhood for Reiko and Treyah. Will the self-proclaimed prince of the Oak Trees finally step up to the throne?

And congratulations to Secret Woodlands for winning Pack of the Month! Their final pack life point value was 300, wow!  Please post in maintenance to collect your ribbon.

[CONTEST] Tit for Tat, This or That
Posted by: Sahalie - Jun 04, 2016, 07:17 PM - Forum: News Desk - Replies (6)

Tit for Tat, This for That

All around Relic Lore, treasures and trinkets are bound to be found. Whether it is pretty to look at, practical, or simply fun to play with, your wolf will want to hang onto their trinket because this game is something you might not want to miss!

Pretty soon the Spirit of Wildwood will be dropping items in special threads for characters to find. To obtain an item your character must successfully "claim" the item in character and then exit the thread once it is complete. Each item discovered or given in-game must be accounted for as it will be assigned a mystery value (by Staff Members); and, it is your mission to find and trade with another character in hopes of that item having a higher value! Trade as many times as you'd like, but once you think you've found something good, be prepared to defend it by any means possible! Items you obtain will be visible on your character's profile.

There will be several "batches" of items dropped, and about 25 items total that will be available for finding. Be on the look out for threads!

For Example:
- Deer antler (worth 20 pts.)
- Black raven feather (worth 2 pts.)
- Smooth blue-toned pebble (worth 15 pts.)
- Rabbit foot (worth 25 pts.)

A couple of rules though:
1) Your wolf may only have ONE declared "game" item at a time.
2) Your wolf may NOT discard (specifically "drop" or abandon it or pick up another item) a declared "game" item; it must be traded with another wolf or taken from you.
3) "Game" items may be subject spoilage, decay or rot, so choose your wolf's item wisely!
4) When you obtain an item, post in Maintenance so that the item can be listed on your profile.

The wolf with the most valuable item will be rewarded something special at the end of the event and the value of each item will be revealed among other stats...

Please list any questions you may have here.

Answered Questions

1. What if no one responds, can my wolf claim the item still? Yes, if no one responds in 2 weeks feel free to make another post with your wolf exiting.
2. Do other predators have to be involved? No, it's completely up to you and the other thread participants.
3. Can these threads be private? No. We'd like to encourage a "free for all get the item" atmosphere. Live a little :p

RP Etiquette PSA, Fight System, & Other Updates

RP Etiquette PSA, Fight System, and Other Updates

General Role-play Etiquette Reminder

We wanted to take a few quick moments to just give a reminder of some of our rules and role-play etiquette expectations here at Ruins of Wildwood.

Out of Character Pack Recruiting
We do not generally allow OOC pack recruitment at Ruins of Wildwood. This can be found in the Leader Guidebook that some members do not have access to, and it is also stated within our ‘Grab a Plot’ board rules at the top of that specific board. This includes:

• privately messaging people and asking them to join a pack you have, or are in
• creating a thread with the purpose of recruiting for your pack on any OOC board
• replying to an OOC/plot thread to try to recruit a character to a pack or offering your pack if a person is asking about packs
• trying to coax people to a specific pack in the chatroom

We understand that this might seem a bit strict to some of our players, so we ask that you take in to consideration that in the past, we have had new members leave the site as they felt overwhelmed or pushed in a specific direction with their character, and we have had people complain about it. If you wish to try to recruit for your pack, or the pack your character is in, we ask that you do so ICly – by jumping in to AW threads, or creating your own.

What you CAN do (and we encourage greatly!) is discuss packs in a more rounded manner, talking about current events that are happening in each one, and offer the link to the quick pack guide to anyone inquiring about RoW's packs.

We also ask that people try not to ‘down talk’ other packs. We have seen this demonstrated quite a bit in the chat lately, and any player should not have someone approach them and try to change their mind on what they might like to do for their character. 'Down talk' includes talking about how a certain pack might disband, so isn't worth joining (generally, disbanding packs require extra members NOT to disband), judging a pack's activity level, etc. Casting aspersions on other packs and discouraging members from joining them only hurts the game as the pack in question might then not be able to get that one extra member they needed, etc. Please be considerate to your fellow role-players. They're fond of their pack too, and unless involved in a plot, generally want to see it thrive just as much as you want to see yours thrive.

Godmodding, Powerplaying and Metagaming
There have been some rising concerns regarding some of the recent role-playing that has been occurring at Ruins of Wildwood. While we do not believe any of it has been done maliciously, or necessarily on purpose, we would like to direct all of our members to read this guide on what is considered ‘bad roleplay.’

These types of behaviors can break the immersion of the game for many of your fellow role-players and can take away from their joy of what this game is about.  We ask that you familiarize yourself with these terms, and in the future, try to keep this article in mind.

Moving forward, if staff become aware of these types of behaviors, we will contact members directly to discuss with them. If you have any concerns or questions regarding any of this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We have a truly amazing community here, and we want to maintain an environment that ALL of our members can enjoy. Thank you for your time!

Fight System

It has been several months in the making, but we are excited to announce that we now have a new guide to the fight system (click to read). Thanks to several members' contributions, and special thanks to Sarah (@Sahalie) for compiling it all, this new guide is meant to explain the basics of the fighting system in an easy to understand manner. If you're interested in the math that goes into calculating your character's stats, all that information is also available at the bottom of the article.

Speaking of stats, we have made an adjustment to how your character's skill is calculated to give that category more weight than it had before. We've also decided to get rid of the pack bonus, since most pack wolves have larger total LP numbers than lone wolves. Likewise, we've also removed the bonuses that are affected by age. We've also simplified the size modifier. From now on, all small wolves get +3 DEF, medium wolves get +3 ATK, and large wolves get +3 DMG. Finally, instead of rolling a d10 initially, we will now be rolling a d15.

As always, the fight system is a system that is actively being developed and improved upon. So if you have any other suggestions for it, please let us know!

Activity Rules Update/Notice

Earlier this spring, we added a new rule to our Activity Guidelines. Based on community feedback, we determined that in threads with more than 3 characters, a character who is on absence can be skipped. We've updated this to reflect that there should be a week's grace period included in this. For example, if Bob, Joe, and Sally are in a thread together, and Bob goes on absence, it is courteous for Joe & Sally to give Bob a week to reply to the thread. After that week is up, then Joe & Sally are free to continuing replying. As always, when in doubt, we encourage you to reach out and communicate to your fellow RPers in a situation like this.

Slack Chat Poll

Please see this thread to participate in our poll as to whether or not we will keep using slack as our chat system.

BWP: A Plague of Peccary

It's been fun seeing what those destructive boars have gotten up to, but with summer fast approaching and packs becoming increasingly territorial now that there's puppies around, the boars have decided to withdraw back to their mother's nest and leave Relic Lore alone. Perhaps they'll be back in the future, but for now, we're bidding our peccary friends adieu. Staff will be working on finishing up existing BWP threads, but we will not be creating any new ones. Thank you to everybody who participated! We are in the process of creating a ribbon to commemorate the BWP, so if you've participated, keep your eyes peeled for that so you can add it to your collection.
