  Of the Months (vol. 10)

[dohtml]

Congratulations Becuffin and Craw!

Of the Month Winners for April!

So it was literally just a month ago that Becu won MoTM, and here we are again! Becuffin continues to demonstrate insane activity with her characters and incite some interesting plots with her characters. Just when we thought Morganna had finally secured Willow Ridge Becuffin pulls the rug out from under us and her character is off to bigger and better things, reviving the same suspense we get from reading books. What'll she think of next? Becuffin has also been super helpful in taking the "night shift" over in Australia, helping out members while the rest of the Western staff is sleeping. We're always grateful. Enjoy the limelight!

Five months and we find our selves back here again: Craw has been busy, readying himself to reclaim the WoTM (the second shortest span of time since Ice back in 2012). Last time we spoke I had a lot of questions about Craw, namely "Will he turn on Morganna?" So far the answer appears to be no, and instead the pair have become mates with the intention of leaving Willow Ridge and starting a life somewhere else. My second question back in December still stands, though, and I'm sure we'll all fairly certain that there is much more to Craw than we see, even if we have seen quite a lot in the past month. Craw has done an admirable job meeting all the wolves of Willow Ridge and managing to create a more or less positive relationship with each of them. Craw is definitely one of the best written characters on the site, definitely contributing to the exciting plot twists that keep us on our seat. Congrats, Craw!

And congratulations to Willow Ridge for winning Pack of the Month! Their final pack life point value was 670, wow!  Please post in maintenance to collect your ribbon.

A few mid-month updates

Your friendly neighborhood staff team is always working to better the site and your experience of it, and today we have a few new updates to hopefully lead in that direction.

Subterritories

Firstly, after about a year of on and off work, we've finally completed an overhaul of the Subterritory Library Article. With a new layout and the addition of handy "zoom in" maps of the different regions, we hope to give everyone a better idea of the position of the different subterritories, to help in your writing. Throughout RoW's lifetime our game has been greatly enriched by these territories, designed and discovered by our members, and we found it only fitting to reward this work with an official spot on the map! Now everyone will know where your wolf went to find this hidden gem, and where they must go to find it themselves. We hope everyone will be as excited by this as we are, and get inspire to come up with even more new territories for everyone to play in!

!Note that these maps are only representative of the territories as they are known so far, plenty of the land is still unexplored, and hidden treasures lie all around for your wolves to find. Just because something isn't yet on the map, doesn't mean it isn't there – it just mean you have yet to find it ;)

Chat

Secondly, for those of you who haven't noticed, we are testing out a new chat client. Many of our members have been having problems with our current chat and we've long been contemplating switching to something new. First though, we need to figure out if SLACK is the new thing we want! We've set up a team for all our members to test out slack-chat and get familiar with it, and we're excited for you feedback. We'll be setting up a poll near the end of the week, for everyone to vote on whether they want to switch to slack or not.

If you haven't joined slack yet, head on over to check it out here – to sign up, simply fill in your email and use the token: " IReadTheRoWLibrary"

  Willow Ridge Round Up

Willow Ridge Round Up

Oh dear! This one has been a long time coming! Now that my computer problems have been provided a temporary solution, I'm hoping to get back on top of it all.

First cab off the rank, a HUGE congratulations to Nicolo on being promoted to leader just in time for Christmas! Morganna hasn't been making things easy for him but he has done a marvellous job holding his own. All feedback so far has been positive, it seems the other packs are loving following the drama as much as we are enjoying stirring it up. ;)

Likewise, congratulations to EVERYBODY on helping us to achieve the Pack of the Month in March. If you haven't claimed your ribbon yet, be sure to request it in maintenance.

We have had a few new members join the ranks since our last update. Room was finally freed up for Wraith, who has worked hard to prove himself a capable guardian and skilled hunter. Only time will tell if he will abide Morganna's intent to keep the children as her own, or if he will find a way to convince her to share. We were also joined by Avari, the mother of dragons on a quest to track down Kjors. Does anyone have the information she is looking for? Ava has several open threads for any who might be looking for an extra thread to get better acquainted with their newest pack mate!

And just to round it out, our library article is in the process of receiving an overhaul. We're still missing almost 2 years of noteworthy threads so if you can assist with populating the article please fill out the form in this thread. Feel free to continually utilise this so we can keep our current events current and everything up to date and shiny. There are also several pinned threads in the common room worth checking out if you don't make a habit of checking in, you probably should! I would particularly like to draw attention to the Pack Role Master List for those interested in taking up a specialist role.

  Cub Adoptions 2016
Posted by: Spirit of Wildwood - Apr 07, 2016, 01:25 AM - Forum: News Desk - No Replies

Puppies Galore!

Finally, we have posted our 2016 Cub Adoption listing up in Wolf Central. You can check it out here! Instructions for adopting a puppy can be found in the first post of the thread. Expectant parents, please see the first post of the thread for your character's due date. It isn't required that you begin your thread on the date posted, but it cannot be started before that date. Puppies will be playable beginning three weeks after their birth date.

If you're wanting to adopt a puppy, we strongly recommend that you read through our Puppy Development Guide. Puppies are fun, cute, and adorable, but they have their own restrictions when it comes to RP, so please keep this in mind before applying.

Feel free to consult the "April" portion of the infographic!

Congratulations Becuffin and Morganna!

Of the Month Winners for March!

So it's almost no surprise that Becuffin took MoTM for March, seeing as she made well over 100 posts, completed six breeding threads --four of which were for Morg. Becu, despite having two crazy children was able to really stir up some trouble IC and take advantage of the breeding season in a way that no one has before. On top of that, she's a fun presence in the chat and always tries to help out when she can. We look forward to seeing what other crazy stuff you get up to!

Morganna Archer. What to say? Somehow during the month of March she managed to parcel herself out to four different males and is currently in the process of securing her throne for sure. In the last month, Morganna has shown herself to be a very threatening player of the game of thrones, plotting with all the males of Willow Ridge to overthrow her uncle. Basically, you look right and Morganna is coniving with someone, look left and there she is hammering out the details with someone else. But the real question is: will it all go according to plan? Can she keep Willow Ridge or will it all blow up in her face? And, of course, what will be done about the other pregnant Willow Ridge female, Hecate, a direct threat to her own cub's safety?

And congratulations to Willow Ridge for winning Pack of the Month! Their final pack life point value was 620, wow!  Please post in maintenance to collect your ribbon.

April Fools!

Alright, so we probably didn't get many of you with this year's joke, but we hope you had a lot of fun playing with sparkled designs and laughing at the fake puppies! I know I had a great time looking at all the funky colors. That being said, those of you who haven't posted designs or commented what spells your character would have in this theoretical sparkledog universe, you have until 4/3 at midnight EST to post these things. Those who do will be awarded the April Fools 2016 ribbon.

[Image: aprilfools2016ribbon_by_euphoriclies-d9x9kc7.gif]

Big Thanks to Kydnt and Puppytheif! And all of you!

This whole event wouldn't have been possible without Kydnt, who approached me at the end of February with the idea for this April Fools. She put a ton of work into making most of the puppy avatars and descriptions, and just in general was a ton of fun to work with! Puppy also pitched in to make some of the descriptions at the end, and her contributions were great! April fools is one of my favourite events here because it's always a blast, especially because of all the great reactions and jokes to be had. Thanks to everyone for being great sports, playing along, and helping make memories!

Not A Joke!

So incase there was any confusion, though, our congratulations to White Fir Notch was not a joke. They are in fact a new pack on the scene, here to stay! If any of the members have yet to claim LP for the pack move/claim and are confused about how many points/of what type they get please don't hesitate to PM the staff.

Puppies!

So, while the fake were totally awesome, the staff would love to push the real puppies out to the members as soon as possible. If you are a couple who has yet to send in your adoption information to the Spirit of Wildwood, we definitely can't wait to hear from you! Don't worry about formatting the information, as that will be taken care of by the staff. The content is the most important thing.

  New Pack, Puppies and ++
Posted by: Spirit of Wildwood - Apr 01, 2016, 02:13 AM - Forum: News Desk - Replies (23)

Buckle up!

It’s a new month, and a brand new RoW! To increase activity and bring in new members, the staff team have decided that our best bet would to just cut our losses and acknowledge the roleplaying powerhouses that are fantasy wolf sites. Truly, it gives people more to do, and maybe this will bring new life to our old and tired site. However, we still want to be different, to bring something truly RoW to this very popular idea. Therefore, more than just fantastical elements, we are introducing the world’s first SPARKLEDOG™ roleplay! Return to your scene-kid roots and design awesome, inspired, colorful characters--the world is your oyster!

With the intention of encouraging people to hasten this change so that we can begin recruiting and advertising our new premise, we have altered the designs for this year's incoming litter to give you guys an idea of what you would like to see. Parent’s desires for the puppies have been considered, and we think we have found a happy medium between the original intentions and our new, innovating direction. Please head over to the adoption thread to get a look at this year’s batch!

New Pack!

Before we get into the meat of this exciting announcement, we just wanted to take some time to congratulate Raela and Gent on the successful relocation of Round Stone Crest. They’ve taken up camp in Secluded Springs, and their new pack will be called White Fir Notch. Exciting! Let’s just see how they get along with their more southern neighbors.

A shiny thing appears! RoW used Transform!

To further motivate our members to switch over their existing characters, we will be awarding this sparkly new ribbon for anyone that switches their avatars to their new character design today! For those of you who are not so artistically gifted, you can use this flashgameto capture your new design. Post your screenshots down below for everyone to see what your character looks like as a new and improved SPARKLEDOG™! That being said, we do have some restrictions.

[Image: aprilfools2016ribbon_by_euphoriclies-d9x9kc7.gif]

Character Design Limitations

  • No yellow because it is offensive
  • Don’t overdo it, otherwise it will look muddy
  • No obscene things or genitals drawn on your wolf
  • Limit to 4 different colors
  • Mackenzie Valley wolves can’t be green. They just can’t.

Magic System!

That’s right, the second big update here--as weare moving towards fantasy, and all--is the introduction of a new magic system. Similar to the fighting system, the Magic System will be based off of LP. Learn new spells when you reach milestones in points, advance your character in one element or diversify into several! It’s all up to you! Since we’re just getting this underway there are only a few spells to work with currently, but bear with us as we work out the kinks. Please post below to claim your element and spells based off of the total LP your character currently has.

Form:
  • Character Name:
  • Total Life Points:
  • Primary Element:
  • Secondary Element:
  • Spells (current limit set at 3):

  • 600 LP, Make a big flame:Control the size of your flame, can only control it with “Control Fire.”

  BWP Updates!
Posted by: Spirit of Wildwood - Mar 28, 2016, 02:09 AM - Forum: News Desk - Replies (3)

Some Updates to BWP: Plague of Peccary

In order to up the ante and move some old threads along, BWP threads will now be finished and archived if there are not enough wolves to fight off the pigs (at least 3 per pig). If wolves fail to rally enough pack mates/comrades the consequences will be thus:
  • No Response to pigs: Den damaged
  • Not meeting round requirements: 1 cache destroyed per pig
Wolves will have between 2-3 weeks between rounds. This has already been taken into affect in some of the older BWP threads. If you have been participating in one of these threads, you may claim LP for them as long as you have posted 3 times.

You may claim:
  • +40 Participated in an RE
  • +50 Participated in a pack activity
And, if your wolf makes an attack on the pig
  • +10 Demonstrated a role (guardian)

Which brings me to an alteration in the LP Rules.

Life Point Rule Change

Previously, the FAQ stated:
Quote:My wolf chased off a mountain lion, badger, bear from pack territory can I collect guarding points (as demonstrating as a Guardian)?
No, points may only be collected for protecting pack against another character.
The staff have decided that, as the pigs are being played by the staff they qualify as "characters," allowing BWP pig threads to be eligible for guardian demonstration points. This does not change the rules about other non-playable animals, even those given to packs in Random Events, and only applies to predator/prey animals played by the Spirit of Wildwood. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or PM the staff account.
