[dohtml] Congratulations Siki and Veho!Of the Month Winners for July!
The staff has come to the decision that our outstanding members should really get more recognition for their achievements within the month. We would like to take this time to highlight both the wonderful member and fantastically written character selected by our community for July. Winners will receive the avatars (275x275 as well as 250x100) below as well as a brand new shiny ribbon for their accounts! Our memberbase is truly wonderful and we should definitely take a moment to celebrate it!
P.S. All previous winners of a Member of the Month or Wolf of the Month award are eligible to claim their super special ribbon! Please post in maintenance to request these ribbons so Ghost and Alace can take care of them!
|
The votes are in, and we are excited to announce Siki as August's Member of the Month! Congratulations, Siki! Siki currently plays Ziigwan, Duckweed, and Belladonna, but she joined RoW with her first characters, Marsh and Kinis, all the way back in the summer of 2010. She has been part of RoW since the very beginning, and this makes her the perfect MotM for Relic's birthday celebration month! This is the fourth time Siki has been voted Member of the Month, and for her long-standing dedication she certainly deserves it!
|
|
Congratulations to Veho Maceio for being voted in as August’s Wolf of the Month! And double congratulations to Veho’s roleplayer, Ace, whose characters have now won back-to-back WotM titles for July and August! Veho entered Relic just this past summer, quickly winning his way into the hearts of many (but perhaps one Lyall in particular). The silver-eyed medic is the sweetest drugged-out hippie homewrecker you’ll find in all of Relic, so tell your wolves to get their tails over to Grizzly Hollow and thread him!

Happy 5th Birthday, RoW!
Another year has come and gone, and what a year it has been! RoW is now 5 years old! That's half a decade or 1,826 days or 43,824 hours! It has been a fantastic and wonderful journey, and on behalf of the whole staff team, I (Shadow) want to say thank you to everybody who has been a part of this community, no matter if you've been here for 1 day or 5 years. RoW has only flourished because of our members and your love for collaborative writing and character development. July 29th is a special day for all of us, and we hope you enjoy the celebration that we've put together for you.
Birthday Skin!
You all should have noticed that there is a new default skin! This is our special birthday skin created by Pinn! She did a great job and we're so excited to share the new skin with all of you and our guests.
Yearbook
Every July, RoW releases a member created yearbook. The yearbook features character profiles, player profiles, superlative voting results, a yearly overview, some neat statistics, and fun and games for your enjoyment. We'd like to extend a special thank you to Sarah who helped calculate the superlatives winner this year.
Taking a look at some of the statistics, this last year has been our most active ever, with over 9,600 in character posts. That is absolutely incredible! Who is up for the challenge of breaking 10,000 for next year? ;)
We'd also like to highlight @ Iopah, played by Emma, who was the most active character this year with 240 posts. Congratulations!
Birthday Ribbons
This year, there are two different kinds of birthday ribbons you can be awarded. The first is the 5 Year Ribbon which will be given out to every single active account on RoW. No need to claim it, it will be awarded automatically to your accounts by the end of the week. This is just our small way of recognizing all of the characters who helped get us to this point. :)
The second ribbon can be earned by participating in the birthday activities. Right now, these activities include the word searches and cryptogram in the yearbook. Complete them and take a screenshot of your results and send them to Serach to get your activities ribbon. Not the best at puzzles? Don't worry! We've got other activities planned that we will be releasing over the course of the next couple of days. So keep your eyes peeled on the fun & games forum for those.
New Staff
Finally, we would like to announce our new staff team. We had an extremely large number of people apply, which is absolutely incredible. It really means a lot to Rachel and myself that so many people are willing to donate more of their time to help RoW run smoothly and we had a difficult time sorting through the applications. So even if you were not chosen, please know that you have mine and Rachel's deepest gratitude for your willingness to help us out.
Without further ado, here is our new staff team!
Rewards Managers
- Ghost
- Alace
Maintenance Managers
- Namara
- Ace
Library Managers
- Grey
- PuppyThief
Contest Managers
- Sarah
Congratulations to our newest staffers! We're working on getting you all titled and set up so you're good to go, so over the next 24-48 hours, you should have access to the staff discussion forum.
Now with all of the news out of the way, let's get down to business....

Hiring New Staff Members
RoW is hiring! We're looking to add a few new staff members to our team to help keep RoW up to date and running smoothly for the whole community. In addition to answering maintenance requests, staff members are also the primary voices in discussions on site policy (rule updates, LP requirements, etc.), upcoming plots, creation of new packs, and more! There's a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, so if you're interested in applying for the team, read on!
Staff Organization
We're implementing a new staff organization system to make sure that all the tasks that are required do get done. Instead of having general moderators, we've decided to split the moderator team into four positions. Depending on the task and the number of applications, some positions might be filled by more than one person. The positions and their respective duties are outlined below:
Rewards Manager
- Responds to Life Point requests
- Responds to Ribbon Requests
Maintenance Manager
- Archiving dead threads in both the IC & OOC forums
- Reviving threads
- Dice rolls for fights
Library Manager
- Updates and maintains the library articles with new information, based on member suggestions and staff discussions. This includes the site timeline/history, rule changes, LP policy, and pack articles (with the help of pack leaders).
Contest Manager
- Plans and runs OOC contests
- Organizes IC random events and other activities
Application Form:
If you're interested in joining the staff team, fill out the form below and PM it to the @Spirit of Wildwood account. We will be accepting applications until July 24th.
Code: OOC Name:
Current Characters at RoW:
Top two choices of preferred staff role:
Other commitments (job, school, other sites, etc.) and how RoW gets balanced with those:
Any prior staffing experience:
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please let us know.
P.S. 12 more days until RoW turns 5! Are you ready to celebrate, cause we are! ;)

PSA: Appropriate Content
Hey all, just a brief announcement for everybody regarding appropriate content for the forums, especially the chat. Recently, we've had an increase in the number of users who have approached the staff because they were uncomfortable by the topics being discussed in the chat. We would like to remind everybody about our "Civility" rule as outlined in the Rules of the Game post.
Quote:Civility and respect is also important in RoW, everyone on the game should be treated with politeness and courtesy whether they are staff or not and in return you should expect the same treatment. If any conflicts or disagreements do arise we ask you to keep them somewhere private (such as PM) and involve a staff member if necessary.
Although it is not explicit, the civility rule means that potentially uncomfortable and inappropriate topics should be avoided on the public discussion forums and the chat. These topics can range from religion, to sex, to politics, etc. We would like to ask that everybody be mindful that RoW has a very broad membership base, both in terms of age and in beliefs, and that some of these topics can lead to negative feelings that make others uncomfortable. The excessive usage of swear words also falls under this civility clause. So we ask that you please be mindful of the other members of the RoW community and be courteous to others if they ask you to avoid discussing a particular topic.
Can we discuss X topics somewhere?
The civility clause applies everywhere on RoW's site and related sites (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.). That said, we also recognize that we are a community and sometimes those difficult subjects come up and we want to be able to discuss them. There are a few options for this:
- PM: A private conversation between members is free to discuss whatever the participants like (excepting violations of our Terms of Service)
- Discussion Thread in Two Cents or Lifestyles forum: If you want to have a more formal conversation with the community about one of these more controversial conversations, you can, but we ask that you please mark your thread appropriately so that other members know to avoid the thread if they do not want to participate in such a discussion. This does not take precedence over the civility clause and staff have the freedom to exercise their best judgement if posts/comments are too offensive to be appropriate for the discussion.
- Chat Room: Users have the option of creating their own chat rooms that are available for others to join. This includes both private chats and other chatrooms that are available to the public to join. Just like the discussion threads, we ask that if you are going to use the chat as a forum to discuss one of these topics, it needs to be well marked so others can know to avoid them.
By providing these alternatives for discussion, we as a staff team are trying to be mindful that RoW's community is made up of a wide variety of users. All we ask is that you, as members of this community, continue to be mindful of other players and respect their concerns over potentially inappropriate content. As always, if you're not sure about a particular topic, you are encouraged to PM a staff member and we'll let you know.
If there are any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to PM us privately or respond to this topic so we can discuss it.
Thanks for your cooperation, everyone!

Accidental Activity Check
Hey everyone, you might have logged in today and noticed that your character has been turned inactive or that your post count since the last activity check was set back to 0. I accidentally ran the activity check script while checking something else. :( I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, please just reapply. Unfortunately, I can't get the counts set back up, but thankfully the actual activity check only happened a day ago. Sorry again. I fail.

Pack Roles & LP Adjustments
Based on recent member feedback and discussion, we have made some adjustments with how pack roles are earned and made some adjustments to how you can earn Skill LP.
How to Earn Pack Roles & LP Gains
There are two types of pack roles that you can earn at RoW: a basic pack role and an advanced/specialized pack role. We have updated these guidelines in our game information and have also asked pack leaders to post these guidelines in their pack common rooms. The guidelines for earning these roles are as follows:
- To earn one of the six basic roles outlined in the library article, a character must have five threads demonstrating or practicing that role.
- To earn one of the advanced/specialized roles outlined in the library article, a character must have three threads demonstrating or practicing that role and any additional requirements that you set for your pack. These requirements will be posted in your pack common rooms by your leaders.
When your character has earned a basic role, they will earn +70 Skill LP. For every advanced role that your character earns, they can claim an additional +20 Skill LP. A character that earns then role of Advisor and then specializes into a Diplomat would earn +90 Skill LP for earning those two roles.
Additional LP Adjustments & Clarifications
- Wolves ranked I. are considered to have the role of "Leader". They may not hold other roles. This means that a leader cannot specialize in any of the basic or advanced roles. They do not claim the +70 Skill LP for gaining a role, either.
- Leaders may claim LP for demonstrating their role (Leader) by holding a pack meeting. Non-lead characters may also hold pack meetings and claim demonstrating an advisor role LP for it. This LP is only applicable if the thread meets the other requirements of demonstrating a role LP. Leaders cannot gain demonstrating their role LP for any other activities. This is because the role of leader and the I. rank are much more closely tied together than any other position in the pack. Since arguably everything a leader does could be considering "demonstrating" their role, we have limited it to pack meetings and the pre-existing LP regarding join threads. Leaders are still able to claim demonstrating a role LP for additional roles (such as acting as a guardian or as a hunter).
- We are removing the -80 Skill LP for Losing Leadership. In its place, we are adding a stipulation that a leader can only gain the +100 Skill LP for Becoming a Leader once per pack. So if you become a leader of Pack A, you get the +100, but if you lose leadership and then regain it, you do not get the additional points. If you then become leader of Pack B, you will get the +100 LP.
Additional Notes
All the appropriate guides and rules have been updated to reflect these changes. In the discussions about these potential changes, there was a lot of confusion about what rules are actually in place and which or not. We have a pretty extensive history and a lot of information to sort through, so we can understand the confusion. However, it should be assumed that our rules and guidelines are up to date. If you do not think they are, please post in the Maintenance thread and let us know so we can clarify.
These changes go into effect today, June 11, 2015. As with all LP changes, we will not retroactively adjust LP or accept claims from activities and threads older than 6 months.
A friendly reminder to all members and pack leaders - the deadline for submissions to the yearbook is rapidly approaching. Check out the links in this news post to submit your information.
Please let us know if you have any questions!

What have you and your pack been up to this year? Had some good moments? Maybe some bad ones? You might want to get started on a pack blurb to include on your page in the yearbook! Get a thread started in the common room and generate some ideas so they can get written up in paragraph form ASAP. Pack blurbs are also due June 28th.
