Breeding Season 2021
Registration- Registration opens March 1st and closes March 28th
- There will be no cubs if you breed without registering
- Mother's rank determines how many cubs you may be eligible for
- Leaders will be assigned a maximum number of pups allowed from 1-5
Subordinates 1-3
- Loner females must register their breeding if they intend on entering the loner lottery
- Please include on your registration: Parent's names, mother's rank, and a link to the breeding thread
Breeding- Breeding threads cannot start before March 1st, and must be completed by April 1st to be eligible
- Sexual assault and pornographic descriptions of breeding are 100% not allowed
- While subordinates are allowed to breed on a sitewide basis this does not excuse your character from IC consequences (ie. breaking pack breeding rules)
- The pup lottery system will be rolled by staff in the official discord on March 31st at 9pm EST. This lottery system includes assigning cub numbers to leader and subordinate litters, and announcing the winners for the loner lottery system. Please note, leader and subordinate litters can be smaller than the number rolled, but not larger.
- Once litters have been rolled parents can submit pup information to Spirit of Wildwood account, including but not limited to: names, genders, fur colour, alignments, and any other information of your choosing!
- This year 3 Loner Lottery Litters will be up for grabs!
Cub Lottery Night!
This year will be our very first cub lottery night! It will be held March 31st at 9pm EST, but how will it work? Well, below is an outline of how the night is going to run down. If you have any questions feel free to ask in this thread!
Leader litters are rolled first, the parent accounts will be tagged on discord and then a d5 will be rolled in the official-fight channel. The number rolled is the maximum number of pups in the litter, though parents are free to have fewer if they wish. Following each litter roll, a date will be assigned using a random number selector, choosing a number between 60-64 and the corresponding date being the assigned birth date.
Subordinate litters will be rolled second, and the process will be the same as leader litter rolls, although using a d3.
Finally, it will be the Loner Litter Lottery!
Based on the order that loner litters registered in the official registration thread each loner litter attempting to breed will be assigned a number (ie. if there are 5 pairs attempting, couples will be assigned a number 1-5). A dice will be rolled with the corresponding number (ie. a d5). The first 3 numbers rolled will be the successful loner litters for 2021! Following this lottery the mothers will be assigned a birthdate using the same method as the litters above.
Adoptions- A large thread with all available cubs will be posted in early April
- Players may apply for multiple cubs
- Parents may pre-reserve cubs
- If a player has not been found within 2 weeks of a cubs birth they will die
- If you're interested in a cub please pm both parents with your application. Please include in your app: Your name, current characters, how many other pups you've applied for, a roleplay sample, and anything else the parents have requested
Births- Cubs are born 60-64 days after the breeding thread occurs, the exact date will be rolled as part of the cub lottery night
- You may not back date or pre date birth threads. The day the thread is posted is the day the pups are born. If you absolutely must post your thread early due to in real life constraints, please message staff to get special permissions!
- If the mother goes inactive during the month she’s supposed to give birth the other parent has until the end of the month to write a thread where the Cubs are “found”
- Labour may be described graphically but please mark your thread {M} accurately
- Cub accounts can be made at any time, but parents please do not add them to the pack until they've been accepted to the site
- Cubs are playable 3 weeks after the birth thread is posted

Advertising Contest!
Who doesn't love a little new blood on the site? Now that the site is re-opened the staff team thought it would be great if we could bring some new members into our family! It will run from today until March 1st.Because we wanted to make this interesting, we've added some rewards for the people who show the most dedication to helping out the site.
Prizes
There are seven prizes up for grabs! We recognize not every prize is appealing to every person, so instead the winners will be able to select their prize, starting with the person who came first, then second, etc. Each prize can only be claimed once and and when it's picked it is no longer available for someone else to claim! Very generously, in addition to the top 7 participants, Sarah has offered to make an avatar set for each participant who advertises on more than 10 sites.
The Prizes- A guaranteed loner litter in the 2021 breeding season
- An extra puppy for your character's rolled 2021 litter (please note, this can be claimed by pack wolves or loners) Claimed by Mel
- A second avatar set created by Sarah for the character of your choosing Selected by Pinn, an avatar set for Vanadis
- A skin created for the character of your choosing Selected by Bryony for Sita
- Access to spring skins from older seasons, not just the 2021 options Claimed by Cade
- A special random event for your character Claimed by Ghost for Viorel
- Special bbcode allowing you to use a code similar to {character}[/character] that can change font size, colour, etc. Perfect for users who like to use more muted tables! We're testing out how far we can take this but there's a lot of flexibility. If you have questions talk to Sarah. Claimed by Tasha
Rules
Now, there are just a few basic things to keep in mind:
- Always read the rules of the site you are about to advertise on before leaving our ad. Breaking rules just makes us look bad.
- Do not post an ad if someone has already posted one recently (though this usually falls under the above rule).
- Have fun! Duh.
- Advertising should be done on legitimate, active sites. (Staff will be checking).
- You must post the link to the ad you post on the site so that staff may verify it. Any unposted advertisements will not count towards your total.
- You must use these ads.
- You will lose a point if you break the rules of a site.
- Make sure you do not delete staff notes

In the remote wilderness that is the realm of Relic Lore, the Ruins of Wildwood is currently considered no man’s land. For over 10 years wolves thrived before suddenly vanishing in the beginning of 2019. Humans have recently reintroduced wolves to the land and now must learn how to survive amongst strangers in a new place.
After soft-closing the game in 2019 we are back! Game development is 100% member driven. We offer a wealth of features for members including:

RE Writing Contest
Well hey all you cool cats and kittens, with our site revival we think it's about time we add some new REs to spice up our character's lives. So, what better way to encourage as many new prompts as possible than some friendly competition? Pinn has very generously offered to donate a skin, table, and avatar set to the winner.
Rules
So without further ado, let's get down to the nitty gritty of the contest shall we? The rules are fairly simple, for every RE that you write and submit you get points, whoever gets the most points wins! This contest will run for two weeks and will end on February 3rd!
Now there are a few small caveats:
- Your REs must be new and cannot already be submitted to the contest or on this list of current REs.
- Since we don't currently have any packs, pack REs are only worth half a point, global and individual REs for any season are worth one point. We are also accepting new SoW drops, these submissions will also be worth one point.
- Please consider that some Random Events or SoW drops could happen anywhere. They should not be location/ecology specific.
Current Rankings- Cadence - 20.5 Points
- Ghost - 12 points
- Puppythief - 9 points
- Tasha - 7 point

Hi everybody! First, it is so nice to see people writing again and the staff are very excited to see how everyone's plots develop as the site continues to grow. Staff have been working very hard behind the scenes going over suggestions for rule and policy changes and after much discussion we have come up with the following changes which will be effective immediately.
Please give us some time to make adjustments to the library and other various parts of the site, as several of these are very big changes and will involve some changing to the code.
NOTE: And if you have any questions about these changes please post them here in this thread, rather than the discord. It will be much easier for us as a staff to respond to them, and helpful for members who might not otherwise catch a quick question in the chat.
Life PointsGoing to start with this one since a lot of the changes flow from this. Over the years we have listened to many complaints that the Life Point system is too complicated, and it can be a huge hurdle for new members to get over. The system was always optional, but the pressure to stay on top of things and grow your character specifically with LP in mind caused an impact on the Fighting System and resulted in "god like characters" who in turn created their own challenges for the site.
Going forward, we are going to be removing the different categories, leaving only "Development." The system was designed to reflect how much your character had grown and the impact they had on the site, so this really feels like getting back to basics. It also removes a lot of the complicated items that were up to interpretation. We want to return the focus of LP to encourage people to complete threads, but in new areas, with new wolves, or with their pack.
You will choose from only 1 option when claiming LP for a finished thread from the list below:
[dohtml]
| Life Points |
| Point Value |

[/dohtml]
What if I've already claimed some life points? Please post in maintenance to have the numbers adjusted. We will also be wiping out Physique.
The Fighting SystemI know what you're probably thinking now: well, if the life points are so different then how the heck does the fighting system work now? The answer is very differently. Since there is no longer Skill or Physique categories we obviously cannot calculate any stats from them. We will be moving to what we believe is a much simpler system that still allows for some on-site development to increase a player's chances of winning a fight while remaining relatively balanced.
What Will Happen to Us? Each attack we will roll a 20-sided dice (d20), and compare it against another rolled d20 for defense. Both the attack and defense roll will be modified by character stats. An adult character will start out with 3 Health Points (HP) (modified by their stat), and every attack will subtract from the characters health one time (i.e. each hit is -1 health). When a character's HP hits 0 they will be considered Knocked Out unless they would like to "fight to the death" (imagine confetti bursting from nowhere at this moment). If a character continues to fight past 0HP, -1 HP will be considered "severely injured" and they can stop there, and when hey hit -2HP they will be dead.
Meet The StatsGoing forward there will be just 3 stats: CONSTITUTION (CON) the ability to withstand fights, DEXTERITY (DEX) your characters ability to defend and dodge, and STRENGTH (STR) your characters ability to land a successful hit.
CON: This stat modifies your character's Health Points. Example: 3 base HP + 1CON = 4HP
DEX: This stat modifies the Defense Dice. Example: you roll a d20 and get 5 + 1DEX = 6
STR: This stat modifies the Attack Dice. Example: you roll a d20 and get 5 + 1STR = 6
Where do I start? There are 6 possible starting points with some fun names.

[/dohtml]
What's the difference between ages? Adults will get 3 HP to start, Yearlings will get 2 HP, and Puppies will get 1 HP. When a character ages from puppy to yearling and from yearling to adult they will get +1 hp. Wolves over 8 years of age will get -1 HP from their overall stat.
How else does my character grow? A character will "level up" every 500LP, which will give them 1 point to add to any stat they want to. They will be able to add 5 points over the course of leveling up, meaning at 2,500LP your character's stats are "maxed out" and they cannot gain any more new points. However, every 500lp above 2,500LP you may move a point from one stat to another if you do not like how your stats are spread out. You cannot move points around before reaching 2,500LP.
Are there Limits? Yes! They are based on the size of your character.

How do I pick a build for my already accepted character Post in maintenance.
Is this going to be on my profile It's already there! Sort of, it just needs to be filled with your stats.
Is the process going to stay the same? Yes. We are still going to ask you to get consent to use the dice system. You are still going to make a post in the colosseum with your stats. We might have to change the code for the dice roller and how that works, which could take a little time but should not be too hard.
Are you going to update the library? Yes! We will be making that a priority to get it up to date.
Creating a PackSince previous rule was mainly based on life points, the new system is aimed to be a little more balanced. The new requirements to create a pack are as follows:
The player must....
- show proof of 5 completed threads specific to creating a pack, this could be recruiting members, scouting out a good territory, digging a den, discussing pack names etc.
- The pack must have 5 members each played by a separate player.
- The leader must have passed 5 consecutive ACs without falling off or being absent when they apply for the pack.
- The leader must have a minimum of 50 IC posts.
We're calling this rule 5/5/5/50. We're hoping this will keep the process challenging but also very attainable as long as your character is active.
Note: For the time being we will be waiving the activity check requirement in the interest of breeding season. However, while the AC requirement is waived the leader's 50 IC posts must have been made since the re-opening. Once the activity check requirement is put in place the rule will revert back to 50 IC posts total, made at any time.
Activity Rule ChangesGrace PeriodThe previous rule was that, if a character was removed for missing the AC, a player had 5 days to bring their character back into the game before they were truly considered gone. They could be automatically accepted back into the pack as long as they rejoined within this time. The new rule will be reducing this grace period to 3 days. We hope that this will still allow players time to bring their characters back in, while reducing the amount of time that other players spend waiting to see how their plots progress.
Pack Activity LevelsGoing forward this will be the new requirement for pack activity: packs are required to maintain at least 4 members at any given time. If membership drops below 4 members they will receive a warning. They will be required to have another wolf start the joining process within a week. (The thread does not need to be completed, only started). If that number does not increase (join threads started, but not finished after a month) or dips back under 4 again in a 3 month period the pack will be automatically disbanded.
Wait Period Between CharactersThis was already mentioned as an announcement in discord, but we wanted to reiterate it. We previously had a wait period of 2 weeks between new characters, and then no wait period at all. We are now reinstating a wait period of 1 week between bringing in new characters to encourage players to flesh out their plots before bringing anyone new in.
Characters Being Outside of Pack TerritoriesPreviously a character could be out of their pack territory for 2 months before being removed from the pack roster, even if their leader had given them permission to go on an extended trip. This is being reduced to 1 month, the hope is this will prevent stalemates for other people's plots, particularly rank challenges. Again, leaders are free to grant permission for a character to leave for a month or more, but when they return to will be joining at the bottom of the ranks rather than their previous position.
Breeding SeasonA common complaint that we got was surrounding breeding season; there was too many puppies and too many couples. So while staff are still discussing what is going to happen this breeding season as we may have no packs, these will be the new rules for a 'typical' breeding season:
How many pups are in a litter will now be based off of the female's rank only, not a combination of the male and female's rank. Litter numbers will be randomly generated by the following standards:
Lead females: Can have litters of 1-5 pups
Subordinate females: Can have litters of 1-3 pups
Lone females: Loners will no longer be guaranteed to be successful at breeding. Instead, loner litters will be awarded on a lottery system, couples 'apply' with their completed breeding threads, and the 'successful' pairs will be picked at random. How many successful litters being awarded will change year to year based on how many active packs/characters are in game. Lone litters will still be restricted to only 1 pup.
MiscellaneousOTMsThese will still be continuing as normal, but as a new form of recognition whichever character wins WotM will be featured as our discord avatar for the month and will be given a special discord role! (MoTM will also get special discord role)
Random EventsStaff will be announcing an RE writing contest soon, so get your writing caps on everybody and get the creative juices flowing. It's time to spice up our random events!
RibbonsBased off of feedback from both members and staff we will be doing away with ribbon rewards. They were not frequently used and frankly were a pain to add onto character profiles, so we're kicking them to the wayside.

Hello!
So I know you all might have seen Shadow's announcement from last month about laying RoW to rest, after we have struggled for 2 years trying to get a new site to work as a new home and ran into personal struggles along the way. After reading that message, doing some deep nostalgic dives, and a lot of soul searching, I came to the conclusion that I really want to give RoW another try. The the site we already know and love. Shadow and I have discussed it, and the site has been transferred over to me to host. I've spent the last few days cleaning stuff up and I want to discuss the new plan with you. If you want to come along, fantastic! If you're going to move on, that is 100% fine too and I still love and miss ya'll.
So I have spent the last week or so cleaning the board up. I have moved any threads that were still open to the Incomplete Thread archive folder, I have removed all the packs and carefully followed the disbandment workflow so you can all still see their library content, or the subterritory. I have cleaned up a lot of the OOC area as well, but left some things that I felt were helpful.
This leaves us with, more or less, a completely clean slate.
Relic Lore has effectively, since we made the announcement in February 2018, been a ghost town. Wolves have left, and moved on with their lives. Perhaps the coyotes resurfaced and drove them all away (Remember that was the last BWP? I didn't, right away). However, now with the help of some wild life conservationists wolves have been reintroduce to the area. The humans left without a trace and will not be returning. We would like to invite you to bring any character you like, back, as long as their history includes what they've been doing for the last 2 years outside of Relic Lore. (Perhaps they had a brief stint on the failed Wildwood Coast?)
This leaves a lot of opportunities completely wide open. There are no packs. The land is abundant and a bit overgrown without the wolves, maybe it's become wilder or stranger in their absence. You can do what ever you like!
That being said, there is still some evaluation to do of the old rules on the site. There is some stuff that was never written down that we applied as precedent in many situations, but it's been 2 years and 2020 has been killer on my memory. There was some stuff that was just so convoluted that it hampered the game. We will be taking a look at that as we progress but for the mean time, if something is written down in the Library it is a rule. Please see this thread to add your input.
Ghost will be joining me as an Administrator and Marina, Arla, and Namara/Tasha as a Moderator. We definitely will need some more help in order to stay on top of the upcoming tasks, so if anyone would like to express interest feel free to ping myself and Ghost and we can discuss!
Please feel free to also ask any questions you like now. I realize I may not have covered everything and I'll do my best to come up with a good answer for things I might not have considered yet.
Thank you,
Sarah

RoW's Future: Progress Report
Hi everyone! It's been a while since we've given formal updates on where we're at with the site reboot, so Sarah and I wanted to give you a progress report. For much of the past month, we've been dealing with the largely technical aspects of getting the new forum set up. We've look at two different forum softwares that are more modern than the one we're currently using and determined the pros/cons between them. Unfortunately, it took us longer than we would have liked to make a decision and there is still a learning curve as we try and figure out how to implement some of the extra features we've all come to love about RoW. :)
To the extent that we can, we'll be keeping the same structure & overall design of the current site. However, there are going to be a few changes that we hope will make the site easier to use:
No More IC/OOC Forum Split
We're going to be retiring our "Enter Relic Lore"/"Return to Reality" buttons in favor of a more traditional structure where all forums (IC & OOC) are visible when you first arrive to the site. We've received a lot of feedback over the years that the IC/OOC split of the forums was a neat idea, but confusing to new members. The Library will still be separated out into its own category.
Single Account with Sub accounts for characters
This is probably the biggest change, but hopefully a welcome one! Instead of having separate accounts per character, we'll be operating under a new system where each member has a single account. Each member account than create an unlimited # of character accounts. Each of those character accounts has their own profile, so information like character details and threadlogs will be kept separate. Things like PMs & Notifications are tied to the member account, so no more forgetting to check secondary character accounts for a missed PM. Here are a few screenshots below illustrating how this works (note that this is all still a work in progress, so design details are subject to change): https://imgur.com/a/jBS1Ttq
Clubs/Groups
There's a new built-in functionality called "Clubs". These are member created & managed groups that other members can join or be invited to. Clubs have their own mini-forum structure, so club members can create & respond to topics. Why would we want this? Well, we thought this would be a great replacement to the pack common rooms, but also a replacement to the current "Studios" subforum as club owners (or studio owners) can manage their club by closing/deleting topics/etc. We'll also be using a Club to manage adoptable characters. We've had a request for this in the past and are happy to have a feature like this built in.
Points/Awards
We've been working on modifications that will make these reward systems a more automated process to reduce the amount of work for both staff and members. Basically, if you post, you get points! We're still in the process of figuring out what you can do to earn points and what to spend them on, as well as what kind of other awards (a la ribbons) you'd like to earn. To get your suggestions, we've set up a Google Doc with our current list: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BwQs...kc5fY/edit
Next Steps
There's still quite a lot of work to be done as we finish up the technical changes & design. But we're feeling really good about the progress that has been made. While we're focusing on the tech & design stuff, we've got a request for help.
- Help us figure out our rewards system. See the "Points/Awards" section above for the link to the Google Doc.
- Help us finalize our regions, territories, and starting subterritories. Marina has been working on a polished version of the map mockup that Pinn made us and we've divided it up into 15 territories of various kinds. We need help with names & descriptions. You can leave your comments & suggestions here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kPts...jbs0I/edit
- We're hiring! If you're interested in helping to staff RoW, please send the @Spirit of Wildwood account a PM telling us:
- How long you've been a member
- Any staff experience you might have had (both online & off are relevant, just please explain)
- Why you want to be a moderator at RoW?
At this point, we're not ready to give a concrete launch date, but we're tentatively hoping for an early May launch. We'll be providing more regular updates the closer we get and will give more details to other questions we've gotten as we can. :)

RoW's Future
Hi everyone,
This weekend, I wrote a farewell message to the site announcing that Ruins of Wildwood would be closing. My activity as an administrator has been poor for a very long time, and I've struggled to find the motivation to actively post. There's a lot of reasons for that, but after a lot of reflection, it's clear to me that if things stay the way they are, that motivation isn't likely to come back. I've struggled a long time with guilt, because RoW has been such a big part of my life for so long and I feel like I have been letting down the site with my lack of interest.
This was a decision that I struggled with, because I love this community and don't want to risk losing it by shutting down the board. I had absolutely no idea when I first started the site 9 years ago with Tara and Rachel that it would grow to such an extent. The richness of the community and the creativity of your characters and plots are truly what has made this game incredible. After sleeping on it and further discussing my decision with our staff team, a different option was brought up and that's what I'd like to discuss with all of you as a way to continue to keep RoW open.
Fundamentally, what we're proposing is a fresh start to RoW. The basic premise of the game will remain the same: a realistic wolf RPG that is largely driven by member plots. But we want to change up the setting and give everyone a chance to start fresh with new characters, or bring over your current ones if you'd like. This won't be a time jump, a revamping of the current territories, or some mega destructive plot that forces all the existing characters to move. We're simply going to close the current chapter of RoW, and start writing a new one.
Why do we want to do this? To be honest, it's because I think we made a pretty big mistake when originally conceptualizing what the map of Relic Lore looked like. When the site first opened, the only territories that existed were on the ones on the west side of Serpent's Pass. 5 years ago, we expanded the map eastward (and then northward a few years ago). The problem is that there's a massive mountain range that splits Relic Lore in half, which consequently can make it especially difficult for wolves living on the different sides to interact with one another. That can limit who you're able to RP with and your plot opportunities.
Besides the IC relocation, we also want to simplify and streamline different aspects of the game that result in large maintenance requests for staff. Namely, we'd like to get rid of the Life Point system or at least streamline it way down. Along with it, we'll say farewell to our fight system. And probably a few other things in efforts to reduce the overall maintenance overhead that the game requires so we (the staff team) can focus our time on posting.
There's a lot of details that would need to be worked out, but before we decide to move forward, we wanted to bring this proposal to our members and get your feedback. We want to know if this idea appeals to you, and if it does, would you continue to RP here? Are there other things you would like to see revisited as a part of this fresh start? What questions do you have? If you're not interested, we want to know that as well. Please let us know by replying to this thread.
Thank you all in advance for your thoughts and comments. <3

Fall Cleaning and Trick or Treat
I'm sure all of you have noticed that RoW has been on the fritz a bit lately. We greatly appreciate your patience when the site is down and would ask that if it is down, don't panic. ;) Shadow has an alert system set up and she's notified immediately, but isn't always available to get the site up and running as soon as the alert come through. We've increased the size of our server to handle the amount of traffic we get, but it is possible it could happen again. If it does, just hang tight and we'll get it back up and running as soon as we can.
On that note, increasing the size of our server does mean increased hosting costs. If you're interested in helping support RoW's hosting, send a PM to Serach to get a PayPal address that you can donate to.
To help reduce the size of our database, we're going to be doing some spring fall cleaning. On Saturday, November 3rd we will be:
- Removing any accounts that were registered before September 1st, have 0 posts, and are not up for adoption
- Deleting any PMs that were sent or received before September 1st. You can export all of your PMs by clicking here
- Deleting old OOC threads that haven't been responded to since September 1st. Relevant threads might be archived instead of deleted, but those will be up to staff discretion. This includes all posts in: Wolf Central (including all of its subforums) and Your Two Cents (including all of its subforums. NOTE: If you have a thread that would be purged but you would like us to keep, please edit the thread's title to have "DND" in it.
- Deleting Character Applications posted before October 1st
- Removing Random Events from before August 1st from the "Previous REs" listing
- Removing "Gossip Wall" Entries from before January 1st, 2018. Old entries will be turned into a static archive.
Please note that once threads/posts/characters/etc. are deleted, they cannot be recovered. So if you have anything important that you would like saved, please be sure to mark it with "DND" or download it. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to respond to this thread asking. We appreciate your help in this matter.
Trick or Treat
A Halloween tradition here at RoW, the infamous Trick or Treat bags are back! What kind of Halloween season will your character have this year? That depends on what bag you pick! Inside each of the 15 bags below is a different random event - themed around either a trick or a treat. With only 15 bags, it is expected that some characters will receive the same random event, and we encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity and thread together - maybe with somebody new!
All threads completed will be eligible for Random Event LP, so long as they are started before November 1st.
When requesting, please make it clear who the bag is for.

Quick Clarification
We apologize for not making this more clear earlier, but the fire that destroyed Oak Tree Bend was localized to only the pack territory and did not affect any of Spectral Woods besides the air quality. No other wolves would have sustained damage from the fire except for smoke inhalation, unless they were in the actual Fire thread taking place in Oak Tree Bend. We want to keep this contained for a couple of reasons, mainly being that we don’t want there to be wild fires popping up all over Relic Lore or confusing accounts of the fire. If there are any existing threads to the contrary (where someone was burned outside of the fire thread, where there were other fires, etc) then the threads will need to be edited to remove those events. In the case of finished threads, the events can simply be considered not to have happened. For those affected by this, you can let the staff know if you would prefer the thread be deleted or moved to dead. If you have any questions feel free to PM Spirit of Wildwood. We would prefer you don’t use the #questions channel in slack.
