Hey Everyone <3
I've got some exciting (and not so exciting) news! I've been awarded a Graduate Research Assistanceship going into my last year of grad school. I'll be assisting with research regarding ethnic conflict and political unrest in Chechnya. This is going to stack on top of grad school, work, and Guard this upcoming year, making my schedule pretty tight, but is an amazing opportunity as I prepare to start my applications to Doctoral programs!
As a result, it's with a heavy heart I announce that I will be stepping down from Ruins of Wildwood staff on July 1st, 2024. In all reality, it's something I've been considering for awhile. I've just been really busy and bogged down with life, and I've found it difficult to balance staff work, writing, and life particularly over the past year. It's been an absolute blast, and I've been staff for a cumulative 5ish years between my first stint 2015-2017 and my second stint since the re-opening.
I will still occasionally be popping into a role to help with coding! Apart from those instances, I'll be just a regular member!
I want to thank you all for being an amazingly supportive community (especially when I break the site during coding sprints) and for my fellow staff team for being phenomenal and dedicated individuals who made staffing fun.

Breeding Season
Registration- Registration opens March 1st and closes March 28th at 8pm.
- There will be no cubs if you breed without registering
- Mother's rank determines how many cubs you may be eligible for
- Leaders will be assigned a maximum number of pups allowed from 1-5
Subordinates 1-3
- Loner females must register their breeding if they intend on entering the loner lottery
- Please include on your registration: Parent's names, mother's rank and age, and a link to the breeding thread
- New this year: Female's age will now have an impact on their fertility. At age 6 females will get -1, meaning leaders can have a max of 4, subordinates a max of 2, and no loners.
At age 7 females will get -2, meaning leaders can have a max of 3, subordinates a max of 1, and no loners.
At age 8 females will no longer be able to carry viable litters.
Breeding- Breeding threads cannot start before March 1st, and must be completed byMarch 29th prior to the lottery to be eligible
- Sexual assault and pornographic descriptions of breeding are 100% not allowed
- While subordinates are allowed to breed on a sitewide basis this does not excuse your character from IC consequences (ie. breaking pack breeding rules)
- The pup lottery system will be rolled by staff in the official discord on March 29th at 8pm EST. This lottery system includes assigning cub numbers to leader and subordinate litters, and announcing the winners for the loner lottery system. Please note, leader and subordinate litters can be smaller than the number rolled, but not larger.
- Once litters have been rolled parents can submit pup information to Spirit of Wildwood account, including but not limited to: names, sex, fur colour, alignments, and any other information of your choosing!
- This year only 1 Loner Lottery Litter will be up for grabs!
- A reminder that while RoW supports a wide variety of gender identities, litters can only be conceived by a female sexed wolf and a male sexed wolf.
Cub Lottery Night!
Cub Lottery Night will be held March 29th at 8pm EST, but how will it work? Well, below is an outline of how the night is going to run down. If you have any questions feel free to ask in this thread!
Leader litters are rolled first, the parent accounts will be tagged on discord and then a d5 will be rolled in the official-fight channel. The number rolled is the maximum number of pups in the litter, though parents are free to have fewer if they wish. Following each litter roll, a date will be assigned using a random number selector, choosing a number between 60-64 and the corresponding date being the assigned birth date.
Subordinate litters will be rolled second, and the process will be the same as leader litter rolls, although using a d3.
Finally, it will be the Loner Litter Lottery!
Using the dice function in Discord, staff will enter the names of each pairing and roll the dice to select which pairing was successful in conceiving their loner litter. This year only a single litter will be granted. Following this lottery the mother will be assigned a birthdate using the same method as the litters above.
Litters that may have multiple fathers will be rolled a little differently! A dice will be rolled equal to the number of potential fathers, and then a dice will be rolled with each potential father's name. This means there may be multiple fathers in one litter!
Adoptions- A large thread with all available cubs will be posted in early April
- Players may apply for multiple cubs
- Parents may pre-reserve cubs
- If a player has not been found within 2 weeks of a cubs birth they will die. Cubs will also be considered deceased if they are not brought into the game in the AC after they become available. IE. If your pup is available to play June 1st, they would need to be activated by June 14th or they would be considered dead.
- If you're interested in a cub please pm both parents with your application. Please include in your app: Your name, current characters, how many other pups you've applied for, a roleplay sample, and anything else the parents have requested
Births- Cubs are born 60-64 days after the breeding thread occurs, the exact date will be rolled as part of the cub lottery night
- You may not back date or pre date birth threads. The day the thread is posted is the day the pups are born. If you absolutely must post your thread early due to in real life constraints, please message staff to get special permissions!
- If the mother goes inactive during the month she’s supposed to give birth the other parent has until the end of the month to write a thread where the Cubs are “found”
- Labour may be described graphically but please mark your thread {M} accurately
- Cub accounts can be made at any time, but parents please do not add them to the pack until they've been accepted to the site
- Cubs are playable 3 weeks after the birth thread is posted
Loner Docks
As we head into the spring season, the days are getting longer and warmer, snow and ice will begin to melt, and the prey will return to more plentiful amounts. The final loner dock will be run on March 14th!

Valentine's ShenanigansHappy early Valentine's! The staff were feeling all filled with ooey gooey feelings and have been buried away preparing for a few contests and events to celebrate a month of love. We will be running blind dates, a most eligible bachelor/ette event, and an advertising contest as well as offering some rewards for particular threads!
This is also a reminder that while February is the month of the valentine, March is the real season of love here in RoW and you may want to start thinking of your plans for breeding season, which will begin March 1st! More details on this will follow later in the month.
Blind DatesSign-ups End: February 13th — LINK
This will be our third year running Valentine's 'Blind Dates'! Sign-ups and complete information can be found HERE. Register by end-of-day February 13th (EST), as the 'date' pairings will be announced on the 14th. All characters are eligible, as the threads do not need to be romantic in nature. Participants who complete their Blind Dates will be rewarded with Random Event LP!
RoW's Most EligibleVoting Ends: March 10th — BACHELORS LINK + BACHELORETTES LINK
New this year is in response to your Discord wishes! It is time to officially see which characters are considered RoW's Most Eligible Bachelor and Bachelorette. Click HERE for complete details and to participate. Give us your nominations by end-of-day February 20th, and keep an eye out for the Voting Period to help us decide the answer to this crucial question. Winners will be awarded bragging rights, flair and a commemorative avatar set!
Newcomer + Themed BonusesEnding: March 31st
For the month of February, we are offering avatar sets to those who meet particular criteria in order to help celebrate Valentine's and to compliment our Advertising Contest. To claim either of these bonuses, post to the Maintenance thread with the information requested below.
Newcomer BonusAll new players who successfully make their first Life Point claim will have an avatar set made for their character! This includes returning members who have been completely absent for longer than 6 months. To claim, simply post to the Maintenance thread stating that you have made your first LP claim and would like to redeem your Newcomer Bonus.
Themed Bonus Any players who complete & archive a romantically-themed, private thread will have an avatar set made featuring the involved characters. The characters do not have to be in an explicit relationship, but the thread should clearly resemble a date or other non-platonic activity and not involve excess characters. To claim, post to the Maintenance thread with a link to the finished thread. Only one avatar set per unique couple will be made.
Advertising ContestEnding: March 26th — LINK
Finally, we are also running another advertising contest to try and attract some new members; it's the perfect time as we head into the always-dramatic spring season. The contest will run February 1st through March 26th and all details can be found HERE. There are multiple prizes up for grabs including a guaranteed loner litter, so make sure to check it out!

Revamped Pack of the MonthI am sure most of you have noticed that PoTM is hardly ever updated (sorry everyone!) So staff have decided to revamp the way that pack of the month is decided. Rather than staff manually going through every thread for the month and deciding what is eligible and what is not, we will now be asking leaders submit their finished threads for points. Points in turn can be "spent" on some fun prizes and some other fun surprises along the way. Since today is January 20th, we will not be totaled until March 1st, so any threads that are finished in January or February will be eligible to claim for the March 1st tally.
How does it workUsing THIS THREAD leaders can submit pack threads when they are finished for points. Pack thread eligibility remains the same, threads must be labelled "pack" and have 3 or more pack members in them. These can include Pack REs, hunts, meetings, puppy lessons, pack hangouts, really anything that is open to the entire pack and has at least 3 pack members in it. Threads can take place in pack territory or adjacent areas. Threads must have at least 10 posts in them, be completed, and archived in order to be submitted.
Remember that even if a thread does not start out as PACK, the tag can always be updated by clicking 'Full Edit' on the first post of the thread if it turns into a pack event!
Now, for scoring, how many points are threads worth? Good question! For every member that participates in the majority of the rounds in the thread you will earn 1 point. For example if you have 3 members participate in most rounds and 2 members who only post once, you would earn 3 points for that thread.
At the end of the month staff will tally points and announce the PoTM on the first! The PoTM will earn 1 point for every active member at that time. Points do not expire and will remain in your pack "bank" until spent.
There will be some prizes that are available to purchase at anytime such as:- Special Pack REs
- Starter hunt prompts from SoW
- Art and other snazzy goodies created by Cade
- Pack skins - two tiered, some for pack use and some featured on the site main page
And on occasion there will be special limited time prizes such as:- Bigger involvement and planning privileges' in future BWPs
- +1 to the leaders breeding rolls
- And more surprises to come!

Happy 11th Birthday, RoW!3 years ago today, RoW was re-opened after being on an approximately 2-year-long hiatus. Before that, we saw an 8 year streak of activity. Altogether, that makes eleven full years that RoW has been open, during which countless memories have been made. Whether you've been here since the start or just arrived, we are so thankful for the opportunity to write this collective story with you. Here's to many more years of community to come!
Yearbook 2023
Unfortunately, the Yearbook is not ready today, but it will be here very soon! As a big thank you for all of your guys' patience, we will be hosting a little raffle until it is released...
Edit: It's officially here! Compiled with your help, we present to you this year's Yearbook, covering our time together from January 8th, 2023 to January 7th, 2024. If you notice any mistakes or run into any issues viewing the pages, just let Staff know by PM'ing the Spirit of Wildwood. Winners will be receiving PM's with their trophies on or before the 21st.
Birthday GamesEnding: January 31st
To further celebrate, two games are available for all players. If you can successfully complete both, screenshot the finished games as proof and send the images to Spirit of Wildwood via PM or to any Staff member via DM's on Discord by January 31st. In return, you'll be sent an exclusive Random Event prompt to be used by any of your characters as a prize! If you run into any technical or accessibility issues with either game, please let Staff know so that we can accommodate you.

All posts made from 12:01 AM January 8th (EST) to the moment yearbook is published will be tracked here, and each will count as a single 'ticket.' For example, if Cade posts twice with Magg and three times with Chan, she will have 5 tickets. When ended, one ticket will be randomly chosen and that player will have character art commissioned on their behalf (Staff pays, you get free art!) from Servals.

Yearbook 2023 PreparationIt's already nearly that time of year... RoW will celebrate it's 11th active birthday on January 8th, and to properly do that we of course need the input of the ones who make it all possible - each and every one of you! This is a community game, and every addition to this collective story we are writing is treasured, no matter how small a part you may feel you play.

Happy Holidays RoW!
I hope everyone has been enjoying their winter and holidays so far! Festivities have come to RoW and once again a few different gift boxes have been left for your characters to play with. Some of our prompts are new and some are classics from previous years all put in a random order. Have fun choosing one per character! These threads are eligible for RE LP if started anytime between now and January 10th.
As an extra present we are also giving our RE LP for any threads where a character gives or receives a gift, if the thread is started between now and January 10th. It is the season of giving after all!
