[dohtml] Pick RoW's Next Site Skin!We are in need of a default winter skin for this year, and figured you our wonderful members may as well make the choice in who gets the spotlight! Nominations will be collected for the next 7 days, with the last day to submit being the 29th. On the 30th a poll will be put up with all suggestions as options, and everyone can vote on their favorite. Cade will create a wintry-themed skin featuring the winning idea.
What are the rules for Nominations?There are none! We're just looking for a who. It can be a pack, a single wolf, your favorite crack ship, a family, a random assortment- what do you feel is appropriate to cap this year off with? Post to this thread, or PM Spirit of Wildwood/DM Cade (Chan) if you'd like to stay anonymous.

Happy HalloweenFor those of you who don't know, staff here at RoW love Halloween and are excited to kick off the 2023 festivities. This year we have three events to participate in if you would like.
Pumpkin BagsThis year staff have created 15 special REs (some you may recognize and some are brand new), you can claim one per character using the code
replacing the # with the treat bag you would like for each character. Threads completed using these prompts will be eligible for RE life points! Threads must be started no later than October 31st 2023.

Word Swap
This one is just for fun! Are you able to spot the 20 silly swaps that staff came up with?
Pumpkin Hunting
And last but not least is the return of the pumpkin hunt! Ghost has hidden 13 pumpkins around the site, if you hover over the pumpkin it will reveal a letter to you! Find all 13 and unscramble the secret phrase before October 31st and you will win a prize (send a message to the SoW account with the unscrambled phrase to claim). Ghost will make you an animated avatar with a halloween tag line as a reward.
Please note, it is a good idea to double check where your letters are coming from as sometimes the same text appears multiple times on the site from the same code. For example there are multiple ways of getting to certain library articles, territory descriptions, gossip wall, calendar etc. The letter only counts once from each location, even if you found it in multiple different ways.

End of the BWP
Thank you to all who participated in the BWP this summer! BC has come off of their state of emergency and the NWT is expected to follow suit this week. In turn RoW's smoke problem will also be resolving, though you are free to still mention it in threads and play it out for the next few weeks as things slowly get better.
As a reminder, Ghost will be matching donations up to $150 and you have until October 15th to donate and send a screenshot to a staff member to be eligible for the donation matching.

Happy Fall Y'all! (I hate myself for being so millennial)
I know fall doesn't officially start until until next week, but here in Canada the leaves have been changing colours since mid August so I decided to make some changes today to move RoW into the autumn spirit.
Some changes: - Fall skins are now available! Feel free to go through and find your favourites
- The BWP should soon be coming to an end soon, though it is based on real Canadian events so it could last a while longer
- September 15th we will have fall REs rolled
- Loner docks will soon be returning. Starting November 1st all loners who do not currently have a join thread active will begin receiving loner docks. Loners will now be docked once every 2 weeks -5LP to reflect the hardship of not having a pack to help support you, docks will halt in the spring (typically around Mid-March)
Once a character reaches -10 life points they will be considered deceased, succumbed to the winter.

Canada and other parts of the world are still desperately battling wildfires. They have and continue to consume millions of acres of land that were home to an incredible variety of both human and animal habitats. For our characters' part of the globe, the numbers now stand as follows; the total number of out of control fires is up to 253 and the total amount of hectares burned is at 13.3 million (32.9 acres), which is over six times the yearly average.
As such, the BWP will be changing to reflect this drastic increase in devastation.
SoW DropsSpirit of Wildwood Drops are very similar to random events. They are 'dropped' sporadically throughout IC threads, and going forward they will start reflecting the severity of the fires surrounding Relic Lore. If you don't want to use what's thrown your way, no sweat! It doesn't have to have happened at all. However, if players do utilize a SoW Drop in their thread, it will be eligible for Random Event LP!
Keep an eye out for the rolled REs as well as BWP prompts have been added in the global and pack sections!
Isolated FiresWe tried to keep the flames back, but as long-time members know, Relic Lore's forests are far from fireproof. Keep your eyes peeled for threads started by SoW- until further notice, isolated fires may be started anywhere within Relic Lore by Staff only. These fires will stay small and burn quick, but all it takes is a single touch to be scarred forever. Fires still cannot be started or otherwise PP'd by members. Evidence of the fires in these threads may be referred to and interacted with.

Fires on the Horizon — Board-Wide-PlotMost of us are well aware of the increase in severe, destructive wildfires across the globe. As of July 12th, Canada in particular has 231 uncontrolled fires and has lost 4.7 million hectares (11.6 million acres) this year, most only since May. This is more than twice the average amount burned in a year.
This kind of devastation is a very real crisis that is directly impacted by human activity and cannot be ignored. The people, wildlife and habitats afflicted need our support, and future generations need our action. If you are able, please consider donating what you can to Canadian charities (or other associated charities, like those which battle climate change), such as any of the following:
Ghost will match all verified donations up to a total of $150, so make sure to PM proof to Spirit of Wildwood to double your contribution!
As far as our game goes, though...
You may have noticed that sometimes the weather widget will display as "smoke." This is because it sources it's information from a real town in Canada, and this smoke is indeed from out-of-control wildfires happening right now. Some players have already started incorporating this into their plots, and we thought that creativity should be rewarded!
This Board-Wide-Plot (BWP) is planned to last as long as the fires do, and consist of only one stage. Consider it mini! Staff will give a two-week notice before the event ends.
Random Event LP
Relic Lore remains unscathed from this summer's fires, but not untouched. Heavy, ash-filled smoke travels from those forests into ours, hot on the heels of animals fleeing the destruction. The threat of the blaze hitting home is always present. How will your character handle these disruptions? Show us, and earn Random Event LP (15)! If your thread reflects the impacts of the wildfire smoke, it will be eligible. This can include things such as:
- Adverse health effects.
- General smoke pollution effects, such as falling ash and vibrant-red sunsets.
- Contaminated water.
- Increased abundancy in prey/overpopulation.
- Increased encounters with rival predators/overcrowding.
- Contemplation/discussion/or other actions taken in anticipation of fires.
*To note, wildfires taking place inside of Relic Lore are still not authorized and should not be written about or alluded to.
Tagged Area
The smoke is currently at its worse in the following region, and thus threads posted here reflecting the impact of the wildfires will be eligible for Random Event in a Tagged Area LP (20)! This will change every Activity Check.

Participant Reward
If you complete three threads utilizing the 'Fire on the Horizon' RE, you will receive a manipulation by Becca for one character of your choice! This is redeemable once per player, and threads must be eligible for the Random Event or Random Event Tagged Area LP.

If you donate to a related charity and are willing to share proof with Staff, you will receive one free 'profile makeover' by Cade, including matching avatars, profile skin, background pattern, family tree deduction, coding and custom decor. Proper Absence Log Use
Hi everyone! Staff hope that everyone has been enjoying the summer so far and also understand we are now heading into a season where our players are increasingly busy with their real lives. Because of this, we wanted to do a few reminders about how to proprely handle being absent.
Short term absence/scarcity
If you are not going to be gone for more than a week, or will be present but a little more scarce than usual you do not need to put yourself on absence. If you want to let people know that you are going to be scarce you can post in lifestyle discussion or on discord to let others know not to worry about you.
Absence of 1-3 weeks
If you will be away, expecting to be unable to post for about 1-3 weeks, please put all of your characters on absence and include a reason (if you are not comfortable saying why you can always state personal reasons or something similar). If you manage to squeeze in time to post that is great! But, these are meant to be for absences where you expect to not be able to post.
Absence of 3-6 weeks
If you are going to be away for longer than three weeks, up to six weeks, you are encouraged to have your characters apply for NPC status. Some general reminders for how NPCs work:
1. NPC is an all or nothing deal, if you want to use this feature, all of your current, active characters will need to be set to NPC for the extent of your absence
2. NPC is intended for a longer absence, if you are only going to be gone for 3 weeks or less, you can use the absence log like normal. NPC requests will only be eligible for an absence between 3 and 6 weeks.
3. NPC's are a special feature that will only be allowed under special circumstances. To be set on NPC, you need to contact staff beforehand, detailing the reasons behind your request and how long you will be gone. We will then decide whether to grant your request or not.
4. At this time leaders are not able to become NPCs, your character will need to step down from their leadership position before being granted NPC status.

Reminders
Staff also want to be clear that using the absence log just to get characters through an activity check is not allowed, it is better to let your character drop and then reapply during the 3 day grace period to be re-activated, not a big deal! Members are also encouraged to re-evaluate how many characters they play if they are frequently dropping off and explore some plots that may take the character off site. We also want to once again encourage everyone to check and write their character wills in case you drop unexpectedly. If you do miss a check and do not activate within the grace period this gives you control of how your character's absence is seen, rather than leaving fellow players in the dark and scrambling to make up a story for why they are gone.
In addition, a reminder that if you do miss that 3 day re-activation window, your character has left Relic Lore. They cannot be considered to be still around but more absent than usual, or checking in regularly or anything of this sort. You can touch base and see if everyone's okay with saying they left RL with permission, but they need to be outside RL and if you missed the period and never told anyone or left a character will you only get to come up with a reason if it hasn't already been addressed by others. Once that period ends, everyone has the right to say your character is missing so that those who are an active part of the game can continue their plots.

Hi everyone! Just a small reminder as we come to the time that character's are aging up.
As pups reach yearling status please remember to post in maintenance to adjust their fight stats. All new yearlings HP will be set to 2, and they will need to take a -1 to one of their stats to reflect their fight build.
Yearlings that are now turning into adults will also need to post in maintenance to have their HP changed from 2 to 3, no other changes will need to be made to their stats until they reach the stat boosts at 500lp, 1000lp etc.
