Hello friends!
We are now about halfway through March, what an exciting time for the site. Tomorrow March 15th will be the final loner dock of the season and we made it through without a single casualty to well done everyone! Staff will re-evaluate in fall of 2023 whether or not they will be returning next winter season.
We are also halfway through our breeding season and staff want to remind everyone that in order for your couple to be eligible to breed your thread needs to have been started no earlier than March 1st and completed prior to March 28th at 8pm EST, the beginning of the loner lottery. Threads that are incomplete or started outside of these parameters will be ineligible for pups.
If you have any questions or concerns please comment below or message the SoW account directly.

Breeding Season
Registration- Registration opens March 1st and closes March 28th
- There will be no cubs if you breed without registering
- Mother's rank determines how many cubs you may be eligible for
- Leaders will be assigned a maximum number of pups allowed from 1-5
Subordinates 1-3
- Loner females must register their breeding if they intend on entering the loner lottery
- Please include on your registration: Parent's names, mother's rank, and a link to the breeding thread
Breeding- Breeding threads cannot start before March 1st, and must be completed byMarch 28th prior to the lottery to be eligible
- Sexual assault and pornographic descriptions of breeding are 100% not allowed
- While subordinates are allowed to breed on a sitewide basis this does not excuse your character from IC consequences (ie. breaking pack breeding rules)
- The pup lottery system will be rolled by staff in the official discord on March 28th at 8pm EST. This lottery system includes assigning cub numbers to leader and subordinate litters, and announcing the winners for the loner lottery system. Please note, leader and subordinate litters can be smaller than the number rolled, but not larger.
- Once litters have been rolled parents can submit pup information to Spirit of Wildwood account, including but not limited to: names, sex, fur colour, alignments, and any other information of your choosing!
- This year 2 Loner Lottery Litters will be up for grabs!
- A reminder that while RoW supports a wide variety of gender identities, litters can only be conceived by a female sexed wolf and a male sexed wolf.
Cub Lottery Night!
Cub Lottery Night will be held March 28th at 8pm EST, but how will it work? Well, below is an outline of how the night is going to run down. If you have any questions feel free to ask in this thread!
Leader litters are rolled first, the parent accounts will be tagged on discord and then a d5 will be rolled in the official-fight channel. The number rolled is the maximum number of pups in the litter, though parents are free to have fewer if they wish. Following each litter roll, a date will be assigned using a random number selector, choosing a number between 60-64 and the corresponding date being the assigned birth date.
Subordinate litters will be rolled second, and the process will be the same as leader litter rolls, although using a d3.
Finally, it will be the Loner Litter Lottery!
Based on the order that loner litters registered in the official registration thread each loner litter attempting to breed will be assigned a number (ie. if there are 5 pairs attempting, couples will be assigned a number 1-5). A dice will be rolled with the corresponding number (ie. a d5). The first 2 numbers rolled will be the successful loner litters for 2023! Following this lottery the mothers will be assigned a birthdate using the same method as the litters above.
Litters that may have multiple fathers will be rolled a little differently! A dice will be rolled equal to the number of potential fathers, and then a dice will be rolled with each potential father's name. This means there may be multiple fathers in one litter!
Adoptions- A large thread with all available cubs will be posted in early April
- Players may apply for multiple cubs
- Parents may pre-reserve cubs
- If a player has not been found within 2 weeks of a cubs birth they will die. Cubs will also be considered deceased if they are not brought into the game in the AC after they become available. IE. If your pup is available to play June 1st, they would need to be activated by June 14th or they would be considered dead.
- If you're interested in a cub please pm both parents with your application. Please include in your app: Your name, current characters, how many other pups you've applied for, a roleplay sample, and anything else the parents have requested
Births- Cubs are born 60-64 days after the breeding thread occurs, the exact date will be rolled as part of the cub lottery night
- You may not back date or pre date birth threads. The day the thread is posted is the day the pups are born. If you absolutely must post your thread early due to in real life constraints, please message staff to get special permissions!
- If the mother goes inactive during the month she’s supposed to give birth the other parent has until the end of the month to write a thread where the Cubs are “found”
- Labour may be described graphically but please mark your thread {M} accurately
- Cub accounts can be made at any time, but parents please do not add them to the pack until they've been accepted to the site
- Cubs are playable 3 weeks after the birth thread is posted

February Festivities
If you're sad that yearbook activities have wound down, fear not! Staff have cooked up a few fun things to keep everyone busy throughout February until the craziness of March begins. Read on if you are interested! Also, we promise that the official announcement regarding March breeding season will be out before the end of February.
Blind Dates!
This year will be the return of the blind dates, with a few changes. This year we are sorting characters into two categories "Young" for pups and yearlings and "Mature" for anyone 2+, though the threads don't need to be romantic we thought this was more appropriate.
Those interested in the blind dates can sign up HERE before February 2nd, and pairings will be announced February 3rd. All the blind date threads that are started in February are eligible for RE LP.
Valentines Day Cards
This year we are also doing Valentines Day Cards! Every member can send one official valentines to any other player on the site. These will be sent anonymously, and valentines will be created by Becca, so a huge thank you to her for volunteering to do this for us! You can send your request for card creation by PM to Spirit of Wildwood and they will be sent on valentines day, so get your requests in early. When sending in your request please state who you would like to send your valentine to, and a message to include to the other player.
Skin Contest
And last but not least (we told you we wanted to keep you busy right?) for the month of February we will be running a skin contest. Whichever two characters thread together in February (threads need to be started on or after of February 1st and finished on or before February 28th) will be featured in a sitewide skin made by Cade. The thread to keep track of your eligible completed threads can be found HERE! Happy threading!

Happy 10th Birthday, RoW!
We're a few days late, but we hope it will be worth it! On January 8th we marked two years since RoW's reopening, and the tenth year played altogether! To celebrate this, we present the following;
2022 Yearbook
Our annual yearbook has been published, featuring statistics from the last year, player, character and pack profiles, and of course the superlative results. For those featured in the latter, expect a PM from SoW with your prizes! The 2022 Yearbook skin is also now the default site skin and will be available throughout the Winter rotation.
If you have any feedback on the yearbook process and/or publication, including concerns or ideas, please send a PM to staff via the Spirit of Wildwood account.
Birthday RE's1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) ![[Image: 0zLOOba.png]](https://i.imgur.com/0zLOOba.png)
Each star represents a birthday-themed Random Event (RE). Select one for each of your characters by using the code below and create a thread centered around the revealed RE by January 31st to qualify for Random Event LP! In addition, anyone who completes one of their RE threads by January 31st will receive an avatar created by Cade. Please notify staff via this thread or PMing SoW if you meet this deadline!
Birthday Word Search
Created with 30 different words and phrases which each tie in to the past year, the above word search will feature a different list each time it is loaded. All you need to do is complete one list, screenshot the finished game and PM it to Spirit of Wildwood in order to earn a birthday-themed avatar created by Cade!

January Updates
We hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season! Staff have been quietly working away behind the scenes on both the yearbook (which should be out in the next couple of days) and some policy changes. We currently have three changes that are being implemented, the details for which can be found below, but in short we have a reminder regarding our policies for gender vs sex and appropriate gameplay thereof, clarification regarding character removal, and the reintroduction of the lone wolf dock.
Introduction of Gender Identity vs. Sex
We're sure the new fields have been noticed by now and we felt it fitting to go over a few things regarding them. While rules can be subject to shift or raised for questions (which we welcome!) there are a few big things to hit first.
It is important to state that RoW is LGBTQ+ Friendly and that we cater to a wide spread of people. Our number one rule is Civility and Respect — so we ask that you please remember it! If a problem arises that cannot be solved privately, please send a message to Spirit of Wildwood.
Transition Due to RoW being a wolf site and semi-realistic, there cannot be hormone replacement or surgeries to physically change your characters. However this update still allows them to present themselves in gender as they see fit!
Breeding Season and Puppies Please note that sex will be the determining factor on whether your character can carry a litter or not. While your character may identify however they like as a parental role, only those of the female sex will be able to carry. As such, only those of the male sex may impregnate others.
Parents should also state what the birth sex is for puppies in their adoption information. However a puppy who is AF/MAB (assigned female/male at birth!) may change as the player writes them. Parent characters may reasonably have reactions to any news shared of such changes. We urge you to keep reading on to understand the limitations of reactions, though.
Behavior and Plotting We do not like to stifle plots or monitor characters, but we do want to ensure comfort and safety on site. This is important in making sure everyone enjoys their time here on RoW, so please read closely.
Characters are allowed to have a negative response in regards to finding out that other characters are LGBTQ+ provided that it is done in a respectful manner. Examples of which might include, a parent finding out their child is LGBTQ+ and being disappointed they won't have grandkids, or a character being confused regarding learning the news (they are wolves and may have never heard of these things before!) But they cannot be violent, derogatory, or over the top. Again, our first rule has always been, and always will be civility and respect.
Characters who have a personality or motive built off of homophobia/transphobia/etc. will not be welcomed. We understand misgendering may happen in introductions (these are wolves!) and negative emotions may exist, however repeatedly engaging in anti-LGBTQ+ behavior may issue a warning.
In similar vein, we will be banning plots that involve a character dying for the reason of their sexuality or gender identity. Absolutely no characters should be attacking or killing others for their sexuality or gender identity.
Example: Bob had just found out that Luke was trans. Bob proceeded to attack, and kill, Luke because he had felt angry about what he had just found out.
A plot like the above would not be allowed under this new rule.
We would also like to stress that while we are currently allowing reasonably written negative responses in character, this absolutely does not apply to out of character areas of the site, including our discord. Plots can be discussed freely of course, but we have a zero tolerance policy for homophobia/transphobia for our members, and anyone engaging in such behaviours will be banned. For example Ghost and Tasha are discussing a thread where Bob finds out Luke is trans and Bob tells Luke that that's a weird thing to be. Ghost says she can see why Bob is confused since he had never heard of being trans before or wondering how Bob's mate Susan will react. This is okay! If Ghost was to say that being trans is weird, not okay.
Questions? Concerns? We welcome questions, comments or concerns! Please remember to be civil in your responses and that staff may not respond immediately if there is a need for discussion based on your input. If you are uncomfortable posting publicly, you may send a private message to Spirit of Wildwood.
Clarification Regarding Character Removal
There has recently been some debate regarding when a character should be considered gone from the game when removed with an activity check. While it has been enforced both ways in the past, we are now officially putting it in the rules that when a character is removed by the AC, and not reactivated prior to the three day grace period they are considered gone as of the day the activity check removed them.
Example Bob is last posted December 14th, and clears the December 15th check, he is not posted again. Bob is removed on the January 1st activity check and not reactivated within the three day grace period. Bob is considered to have left the game on January 1st.
Now! We would like to use this opportunity to re-introduce Character Wills. These were used previously with success so we thought it would be a great time to bring them back to light. We encourage everyone to see the list of examples HERE, and put whatever wills they are comfortable with in their player blurbs, just like your player preferences. Examples of which can currently be seen on Viorel's profile.
Loner Docks
Staff have decided to re-introduce the loner docks that had been seen previous to the site's reactivation. This was done primarily to address the large number of loners that we currently see on site, and to reflect how harsh the realities of being a loner in the winter is. Loners will now be docked once every 2 weeks -5LP to reflect the hardship of not having a pack to help support you. this will only be in effect for the winter and will halt in the spring as the environment gets easier to survive. Pack wolves, and loners who have active join threads will not be docked.
Now there are consequences to losing LP. Once a character reaches -10 life points they will be considered deceased, succumbed to the winter.

Recent Pack Changes
Hello friends! Some of you may have noticed there are some seriously big pack changes going on these days!
Packs Disbanding
As of December 4th, 2022 Willow Ridge has disbanded, the changes for this on site have already been made so you will notice that their description etc is already archived.
Come December 15th, 2022 Fool's Gold Chasm will also be disbanding, though it is so close to the holidays it may take staff a little longer to do the housekeeping on this one!
We are sad to see both of these packs go, WR had been around as a revival since February 2022, and FGC was created February 2021. With both of these packs gone we will be sitting at 2 in game packs and as of this writing the game can support 4! Which means as packs fall it leaves room for new packs to rise, who could be the next leader in the making?
Changes to Pack Ranks
Staff have also decided to make a few changes to how pack ranks work. Prior to today there could be no gaps in pack ranks other than the leader section, the change we have decided to make is to allow for gaps in the second tier as well. Meaning that should pack leader(s) not trust enough wolves to be considered their second they may have only one wolf in that section and leave the second one blank.
Now, this will mean some changes for how challenges work as well! Below are some examples of how pack challenges can now work, but the long and the short of it is, how a wolf challenges depends on whether there is one or two wolves in a tier, and whether they are challenging to take the spot solo (if there is only one in the tier) or be added alongside the solo wolf.
Examples:
Pack 1 is laid out at:
Tier 1: Wolf A & Wolf B
Tier 2: Wolf C & Wolf D,
If either C or D want to be leader they could challenege A or B and take their spot if they win. If wolf E who is in tier 3 wants to challenge up they can challenege C or D and take their spot if they win.
Pack 2:
Tier 1: Wolf A
Tier 2: Wolf B & Wolf C
If either B or C want to lead alongside Wolf A, they would need to request to do so and Wolf A would need to agree. This could be a verbal conversation or Wolf A could ask them to prove their worth by completeting a task, or a spar or something else.
If B or C wants to lead alone they would need to challenge A as normal.
Pack 3:
Tier 1: Wolf A
Tier 2: Wolf B
If a subordinate Wolf C wants to be promoted to 2nd tier, they would need a blessing from Wolf A as the leader, and it could be a conversation, spar, task etc. If they want 2nd tier alone it would be a challenge as normal.
