Pack Threads

To help increase the interactivity of pack members, RoW is implementing "Pack Threads". These threads are single thread role plays that are open to all pack members. This thread is placed in the pack den area and serves as a meeting ground for those casual interactions. Think of it as a way of accounting for the time spent between your usual threads - pack wolves should return home, socialize with each other, etc. These threads act as a way to do that!

Now, pack threads are different from the typical RP thread. They are never "complete" and never "dead". The time setting for the threads is a real life system, so that if wolf A posts on a Monday, they are in the pack area on that Monday. But if Wolf B doesn't arrive until Tuesday, then Wolf A and Wolf B are not considered to be at the pack den at the same time.

What does this mean for interactions between characters? Well, it means that sometimes Wolf A is going to be at the pack den and nobody is going to be there. Other times, it means that Wolf A and Wolf B are both going to be there and have a short interaction. These interactions between the pack wolves are meant to serve as the casual conversation you have - think about the random conversations you have with your family members as you pass each other walking through the living room or the kitchen: they're not so important that you'd recount them, but they are what helps bring families together.

However, we are all aware of the limitations that online RPing brings, and thus some rules to help with these interactions have been established.

— Interactions last a total of three real life days (ie. if Wolf A posts on the 1st, Wolf B has until the 3rd to post a reply to Wolf A before it is assumed that Wolf A has left).
— Once the 3 day extension has passed since the last post, it is to be assumed that the characters in that interaction have left the den area.
— Players should indicate OOCly when their character has left the area (does not apply if the 3 day window has expired).
— Given that both packs have newborn pups in their ranks, it is to be assumed that the pups, as well as the mothers are in the den doing what they do best: resting. This gives them the freedom to RP if they want to, but it is not a requirement to respond.
— Interactions in these threads cannot be private. If two characters are spreeing and a third one enters the interaction, that is perfectly legal.

This is a rather interesting idea, and it is understandable if there are any questions. I've listed an example at the bottom of this post to try and give you an idea of how these interactions will take place, but feel free to respond to this threads with comments, questions, and suggestions.

EXAMPLE:
Jun 26 - Wolf A posts.
Jun 26 - Wolf B posts and interacts with Wolf A.
Jun 27 - Wolf A posts once more and then leaves.
Jun 30 - Wolf B does not respond in the three day limit, it is assumed that they have left.
Jul 4 - Wolf B posts; no one has visited since the 27th. Wolf B caches something away nearby.
Jul 4 - Wolf C comes by and finds the hoarded treat, but Wolf B is still there.
Jul 4 - Wolf B interacts/posts and leaves.
Jul 4 - Wolf C interacts/posts and leaves after Wolf B.
Jul 6 - Wolf B and Wolf C are gone... Wolf A returns in hopes of company... no one's there. (/sad face)
...etcetera, etcetera

RoW Yearbook & Other Birthday Celebrations

So as some of you may be aware, RoW turns a year old next month, July 29th. And a heck of a lot has happened here in that time. We have accumulated 4,339 posts and 173 accounts. There are now eight beautiful puppies wrecking havoc in Relic Lore and two thriving packs, with a third under development. All in all, I'd say that we've done a great job!

So as part of the Birthday Celebrations, I am creating a Yearbook to document RoW's first year. This will include OOC events, memorable quotes, your favorite topics, and of course, member voting. To do all this, I need your help. Below are the following categories that need to be voted on by the membership:

RoWriMo Extension

This is just an update to let you guys know that the staff has decided to extend RoWriMo for an extra month. This means that the contest ends on July 1st. This was done because we all know how busy the month of May can get with the end of school. Good luck to all participants!

New Staff & Of The Months

The staff would like to congratulate Chelsie for being selected as our new Advertising Manager. On the whole, we feel that she will be an excellent asset to the staff team, and want to thank everybody who applied for the position - we really excited to see such a large willingness to help RoW. Don't fret if you weren't picked, there will be more opportunities to help out the staff as summer continues!

New Skins!

New Lands + RoWriMo!

What is this?!? If you haven't, run and take a look over at the IC Lands and you'll notice that there are quite a few new lands! What you saw before was only a limited portion of Relic Lore, but as more and more wolves have arrived, the boundaries of the known world have been pushed, and these new lands are representative of that.

They have been divided up into four regions: North Eden, South Eden, The Heart, and Serpent's Pass. Not sure what these are? Then check out our brand new map, courtesy of Kori from Wolf's Requiem.

Of course, new lands means whole new areas to explore! As you'll notice, none of these new lands have subterritories. This is to give you all a chance to create them as your wolves explore the new areas. If you have a great idea for a subterritory, then don't hesitate to let us know in the Explorer Extraordinaire .

In preparation of the muse that we're sure is going to accompany the new lands, we would like to direct your attention to RoW's latest contest, RoWriMo, which will push your writing abilities to the limit!

Finally, we would like to acknowledge all of your opinions in the informal survey and let you know that further changes are on the way, but we couldn't wait to introduce these new lands to you any longer. Enjoy and keep up the good work!

Go Wild! Challenge Winner

The staff would like to extend a congratulations to Switch for winning the "Go Wild! Challenge" with both of her characters, Jaysyek and Triell. Her reward, besides an icon (which will be added shortly) to display in her profile, is a beautiful skin made by Sarah. This skin will be the default skin on RoW for the next couple of weeks. The skin features Triell Tainn exploring the wildness that is Relic Lore. It can also be changed in your User Control Panel under the Change Skin option.

Don't fret now that the contest is over! We still want to encourage you to get into the wildness of your characters. Sometimes we forget or overlook the animal traits of our characters in our posts, and this was merely a reminder of that.

On a different note, please be aware that the boards will be undergoing some changes in the next couple of days as we get ready to kick off summer! So if the board is turned offline for a little bit, don't fret, we're merely making the necessary changes to keep RoW epic. ;)

Survey & Pups

Hello all, happy Middle of April! Can you believe that we're almost done with the school year (for those of us that are still in school)? I certainly can't. =) I want to take this time to congratulate everybody on their activity thus far, RoW has passed the 3,500 posts mark, an incredible achievement! You all have my love for that.

The reason for this update was to direct your attention to this INFORMAL SURVEY about what is happening on RoW. The administration has been working hard on some behind the scenes changes that will hopefully result in a better role playing experience for you guys. But, we want your opinions on a few things before we implement these changes, so here is your chance to let us know what you think!

Also, a reminder that there are three litters of puppies that are being born on RoW this year. If you feel like you have the time and the desire to play one of these little rascals, then why don't you head on over to the pup adoptions to check them out?
